On Wednes lay morning o." lest week, Hamue Doweu, James P. Smitli and Henry Deaver started for Shade mouutaiii to out a beo-tree which they had dis covered a few days before, lliey came to the tree about ton o'clock only to And it cut down and the bee and its honev taken by a party from Fremont who had also found it. On their way homo they crossed a "stone riftle" or ledire of rocks under which the sound of Tunning water eould be heard. While orossing thl their attention wc:, aiiracUd by The rattling of a snake ami a glance iu the direction revealed a huge rat. lo snake and large copper head lyiug on a pile, sunlng themselves their bodies entwined lu such a manner that is was difficult to distinguish one snake from tho other. They nt first thought it was a male ami female rattler, but upon hilling aud examin ing them found the one snake to have sixteen rattlers aud tho other none which proved to be a copper-head After satisfying themselves as to the truth of this strange "amalgamation of the races" they turned to leave. when they found themselves perfectly hemmed iu with copperhead mid rat tie snakes, and before they left the stone patch they had killed six rattle snakes and threo copperheads. Many more got away especially ono old female rattler which Mr. Dowen de scribod to us as being as thick as his leg. These aro the facts us we got them from tha men, aud we have no reason to doubt a word of it. There have beeii more snakes found on Shade mountain this year than aver before tho cause is probably tho dry weather which com pells them to come to the base for water. I . 1 .! AnAMSuuna.
