We are too apt to think that glory belongs alone to th'3 sol dier who gives his life on the fiH of battle in the mi.'st of smoke and the roor of cannon; but the boy who cIofc:-! his eyes to the visions of a pucce?sful business career, dons the khaki, and goes into a training camp, there to prepare for any sacrifice his country may demand, and there succumbs to disease over which he has no control, is every inch a patriot, and is deserving of the everlasting gratitude cf his coun trymen. During the past week, two Fulton County boys at Camp Lee, fell victims to the dread scourge, Spanish Influenza that ii now prostrating so many thousands all over the country. The first to give his life in thi i wry vas John Leroy Fleming who went to Camp Lee on the last Friday in July, and he passed away last Friday evening. His remains escorted by a soldier, reached Fort Loudon on Sunday, and it was con 'eyed to tho home of hi mother, Mrs. T. S. Fleming at Clear Ridge, where the funeral was held on Tuesday morning. The second, was Howard Kirk, son of Mr. and Mis. E. H. Kirk, of Taylor to.vnhip, who passed last Sunday morning. His re mains reached Three Springs on Tuesday evening, and the funer al will take place at the home of his parents this morning. Mr. Fleming was aged about 32, and Mr. Kirk about 23. Spanish Influenza. Spanish Influenza ha3 the east ern cities in its grip, and the malady is gradually working its way westward. It is reported that there are 180,000 cases in Philadelphia, and busi ness in that city is paralyzed. Much the Bame condition pre vails in Boston, New York, Bal timore and the inland cities of the cast. 1300 eases are reported in Franklin County, distributed in the towns as follows: Cham bersburg, 800; Waynesboro, 300; Merctrsburg, 121; Greencaslle, G(i, with a half-hundred ca'ies in the outlying diitiicts. Probably not more than a doz en cases are rep irtod in this county, and noiio of them h worse than the oniir:;:ry case of grip. The real truth U, that it differs but little from the form of grip with which we have been more or less familiar for several years, v. ith the exception, that it seems t be in a mie vir ulent form this season, ju;it as scarlet fever and uther diseases are worse some seasons than oth er. Just now, it stands one in hand to be careful; there is a strong tendency for tho disease to run into pneumonia, and terminate fatally. Kc p away from crowd-, nr.l do not uneccssarily expose jour self. If you have a cough, use a handkerchief, and do not snort the vapor from your lungs r.ll over every one near you; avoid hpilting on tho sidewalk, in pub lic halls, or on the floor in the parlor. Use plenty of common sen?!, and if you, or any member f your family, become infected, do your best to keep from spreading it to your neighbors. It is beiieved that with tho ap proach of frosty weather, that there will be a subsidence of the epidemic. San Joss Scale.
