The most comprehensive system of curb markets in any county in the state has been worked out by Emerson P. Jen uings, chairman of the lood de partment of the Carbon county Committee of Public Safety. Markets have been organized in tbe following 'towns: Lehighton, Mauch Cbunck. Summit II ill, Weatherly, Weissport, Palmer ton, Eist Mauch Chunk, Lands ford, Nesquehoning and Bow- manstown. A schedule has been prepared so that on each day of the week, except Sunday, Curb markets are held in at least four of the towns. They have proved very popular among the housewives of Carbon county but the farmers have opportunity for a more hearty response. The sale of fish has been one of te important features of the markets. Chairman Jennings has made a practice of ordering larfc'e quantities of fresh fish to be delivered at the curb markets. They are sold at a moderate price; just sufficient to cover original cost, express and hand ling at the market. By selling fish at low prices Mr. Jennings has not only pro vided a substitute for meats but he has pleased the housewives by supplying a variety on the ' menu. , - New Hell for Kaiser. In the opinion of Dr. J. M. T. Finney, hcadot the John Hopkins base hospital in France, a "new hell will have to be invented to properly provide for the kaiser' In a letter received at Baltimore from the doctor, he writes: "The spirit among tbe English that I have talked with, the French and the American troops is magnifi cent. There can be no doubt in the world but that Germany is 'going,' and that the allies are 'coming' al the time But unless something unforeseen happens, the general feeling is that it is going to be a long, grim war, and that the end is not in sirht" .
