I am located in the village of Schultzville, 22 miles northeast of Poughkeep sie, 4 miles west of Stanfords ville, 12 miles from the Connect icut line, and 16 miles from the Massachusetts line. I am in the county of Duchess, and Kingston lies but a few miles to the north west. "The country here is beautiful. Crops look fine. Hay harvest has just commenced; grain, quite green. Large herds of registered cattle are quite in evidence mostly Holstein and Guernsey. There are some well-bred horses, but in most cases there is lots of room for improvement. "I find tho people here very industrious with up-to-date homes and' they possess a spirit of sociability much above the av erage. The census bureau has made a new estimate of the population of the country by states, counties and cities as basis for military estimates of the avaiable fight ing strength of the nation. The total estimate for the United States, excluding Alaska, Hawaii and Porto Rico, is, 103, 819,684, and with the territories named is 105.3G6.056. This is an increase of more than 1,000,000 over the last es timate. The estimate of the population of Philadelphia is 2, 0G0.021, and of Pennsylvania, 8, 981,082. The man whose income is $50,000 annually may give the tithe, or $5,000 to charity ,or to his church and still have $45, 000 to live on. But the man whose income is $500 has but $450 to live on if he give the tenth. However, .more people, whose incomes are less than $1,000, give the tenth than those whose incomes place them in the wealthy class.
