Mrs. Walter Comerer, of Burnt Cabins, was one of the hot weath er shoppers in town last week. Mrs. John B. Runyan enter tained her Sunday School class at Dougley Spring last Saturday afternoon. We will give a prize to the one who can name the most things that the oil on our streets smells exactly like. John B. Runyan has the con tract to erect a fine monument on the Henry Betz burial plot at the M. E. cemetery on Green Hill. Monument to be completed early in August HIDES. Frank B. One of the soldier boys down on the border said "Do not send scented soap send the kind that takes the dirt off." A man on duty on the Mexican border has little time for sentiment What he needs is substantial sub stances. One day last week, a little girl aged about ten years, daughter of McCaullny Pittman, of Thomp son township, was bitten on the ankle by a copperhead snake. Dr. Robinson, of this place, ren dered medical aid. She seems to be recovering rapidly. Mr. Harvey H. Clevenger, overseer on a large stock farm in Delaware, came home last week to spend a few days with his family in this place. Harvey is making good, and we heartily congratulate him on having se cured such a nice job. Farmers in this county have the opportunity of their lives to enrich their land this season. The abundant clover crop should not all be taken off on spots need ing fertility. Nothing equab clover to build up land that has become "run-down." But it must remain on and in the soil. Deer are becoming so plentiful and bold in the South mountains that they are giving serious trou ble to orchardists and others be cause of the damage done by them. It is not what the deer eat, but the destruction to young trees that is attracting the at tention of the State Game Com mission. Recently, 46 deer were seen at one time grazing in farm lands.
