Barney, near Clearville, Bed ford county, was raking hay, the driving lines broke when he gave them a hard jerk, with the result that he fell backwards from the rake and broke his neck. How ever, barney is still living, the Doctors having put his neck in plints, and he may recover. After a brief illness, John Wes- ey Nycum died at his home in Monroe township, July 10th, aged about CO years. The barn on the farm of Na than Trail, near Mattie. was de- troyed by fire on the night of uly 10th. One horse, wagons, hay, grain, machinery, &c, were burned. $1,500 insurance. Teter Sweitzer, near Tates- ville, wa3 struck by lightning and killed a3 he stood on his porch in the afternoon of July th. He was thirty-two years of age. On July 7th, two little daugh ters of W. C. Coppett, near New Paris, were playing in the wagon- hed when the two horses used o hauling in hay were unhitched and turned loose to go to the sta ble. One of the horses walked over the younger girl, aged less than two years, stepped on her head and neck, killincr her in- tantly.
