The Pennsylvania railroad placed orders last week for 100, 000 tons of steel rails. It's all right to make hay while the sun shines, but some of us came very nearly not having any hay to make while the sun shone. A 3-ton road plow was taken through here on Monday to be used in ploughing up roads where necessary to level them. The plow is drawn behind the road roller when in use. Secretary of State, William Jen nings Bryan, will lecture in Chambersburg Saturday evening, July 18th. The lecture will not be political, but will be one of his famous Chautauqua discourses. HIDES. Claud McCusker, who shot to death Jefferson Roman, near Hancock, on May SO, 1910, after having baffled the police for four years, was arrested near Greens burg, Pa., last week, and will be tried in Hagerstown, in the No vember court A letter from Albert Hcikes, Great Falls, Mont, says that his family are all very well, and that while they have had a dry sea son, the crops are very promis ing. He wishes to be remember ed kindly to all his old Fulton county friends. Mrs. Matilda B. Trout went to Chambersburg last Friday to see her daughter, Mrs. E. R. Mc Clain, who has been in the hos pital for several weeks. While in Chambersburg, Mrs. Trout was the guest of Mrs. Ida Parker Skinner. Mrs. Trout found her daughter to be improving rapid ly, and came home Sunday with Mr. McClain, who drove over for her in his auto. Mrs. McClain will remain at the hospital until she fully recovers from the se vere operation which she under went. David Malloy, a former well known business man of this place, dropped into town last Saturday for a short sojourn among old ac quaintances. About eight years ago Mr. Malloy went to Wyoming where he preempted a quarter section (ICO acres) of govern ment land. He afterwards pur chased eighty'acres of adjoining land, so that he now owns, clear of encumbrance, 240 acres of good land, which we think is a pretty good eight-years' work. Mr. Malloy looks well, and the dry climate of the Rocky Moun tains seems to have preserved him first rate. At Mcrtie C. The Alaska Dog Team. Estell Mason and her team of Eskimo dogs passed through this place last Friday morning. Ac cording to the postal cards which she sells to support herself and dogs, and an escort, they left Nome, Alaska, October 27, 1908, for a trip of 32,000 miles around the world. They are now on their way to San Francisco to at tend the Panama World's Fair. The team is composed of nine dogs, seven of which were draw ing the low-wheeled wagon; the other two ran with the team. Besides the nine grown dogs, there were seven puppies in the wagon, or, rather, in the sled; for the "second story" of the outfit was a sled, and in case snow is encountered, the vehicle can be reversed and the wagon can be carried on tfye sled. The follow ing dispatch from Chicago would indicate that somebody knew what he was talking about: Chicago, July 16. tattle pri ces at the Union Stock Yards reached a record point to-day when choice beeves sold for $10.00. This price was the highest ever paid there in July and was a top point for the year. Hogs touched $9, the highest level in months. Holy Communion.
