Early and Long Winter. An early winter and a long and severe one is the gist of the first forecast of the season relative to the coming winter period. This forecast is quite a bit ahead of the goosebone prophets of Penn sylvania was sent out from New YorK last Sunday. Head Keeper Snyder, of the Central Park men agerie, is credited with making the bold assertion. Tins is what he says: "All signs point that way, and I have been studying these things for a quarter of a century. Black birds, chipping sparrows, blue birds and other summer visitors have been Hocking over a week. I saw a flock of several thousand blackbirds flying southward over the city last week. Migration to tho south is unusually early this season. "The chipmunks are very bciay laying up a supply of beechnuts aud other provender for a long winter.
