Tell your drug gist that you waat Pape's Dia pepsin, because you want to be thoroughly cured of Indigestion. Corn Greatest of Tbem All. Corn fed pork furnishes our tables with millions of hams and sausages, besides bacon and lard. Corn produces the best of poul try and eggs, of which alone we as a nation, consume more (when measured by dollars) than we do of wheat. Of cornstarch we use about 7,00O,00D a year, to say nothing of the enormous consump tion of glue, combs and products made from the horns, hoofs and hair of those corn-fed animals. To all these we must add a pro duct of corn o'l (maximum $16, 000 daily), largely used in paints; and the by products of corn oil, starch, glucose, whisky and al cohol, dried and sold in cakes, for animal food; amounting to milli ons of dollars per year. Nor is that all that corn accomplishes. Besides giving food and clothing in the form of animal and vegeta ble products, as indicated, it gives life and strength to millions of horses, mules and oxen that till our fields and haul our multi tude of farm products to the thousands upon thousands ot country markets, from Maine to California, and from the Dakoias to Florida and Texas. My Dkak Fuiknos: As the "Holiday Season" is over, I feel justified In writing a few lines to the readers ol the good "Fulton County News" again. I trust each of you had a very Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year, and resolved at the close of '08 to make '09 the best year of your lives. As for me, I can truthfully say that it was a grand privilege for me to be able to spend the "Iloli day Season" in this World famed City, and I know that an cduca tiou is best obtained by actual ex perience. It was my duty, which delight ed me very much, to visit hospit tls, and obtain the number of pa tients which bad no one to care for them, or to give them a gift for Xmas, After preparing a box for a number of individuals.in the condition just stated, I took ths boxes, being assisted with help (of course) to the different hospitals. Therefore when I was striving to make others happy 1 was very happy myself. Xmas was observed by the peo ple in general and many enter tain ments were rendered in the different churches. I came to the place where I did realize what a gift God gave when he. gave us his only Begotten Son, etc. John 3:10. Santa Claus was seen at the church entertainments, private homes, and on the streets; thus many children were made happy. Everything in general was made beautiful for the season. I never would have been able to see tne beaoty in everything in nature's work, had I not been away from the very heart of nature, (coun try) as I have, i have had the opportunity of visiting many hos pitals, some private homes, and the larger number of the points of interest in the "City." Thus obtaining more knowledge than books can give. We, as students did not re ceive any lectures during the Holidays; therefore, we had a more pleasant season than other wise. As the last hours ot '08 came rolling by. watch-night meetings were held, bells were rung, etc., and it seemed, that everybody began '09 with joy and thaaks giving. On New Year's day, President Roosevelt gave a public reception and therefore. I had the oppor tunity of shaking hands with him and seeing a large nu mber of our country's noted men such, as sailors, soldiers, G A. 11. men and others. It was reported that the President shook hands with over 6,000 people between the hours of 9 a. m. and 3 p. m., Jan uary 1, '0'J. 1 also had the honor of being a guest at two more re ceptions on New Year's day. It will only be a short time un til Inauguration time, and, of course, that will be a great event in this City. Therefore, I advise all that have the means, to spend at least 4 or 5 days in this Capi tol City. I think any body would be profited to act so, if it was possible. It was my privilege to sit in the pew in which President McKin ley sat, wheu he attended church in the City, and at this time the same pew is occupied by Vice President Fairbanks. This is the Metropolitan M. E. church, of this city my choice of the large number of houses of wor ship. I attend its service quite regularly. I am sorry 1 have written so much concerning myself, but hope you will please remember that in all my daily tasks I am laboring among those who are in great need of both physical and spiritual strength. The Bible, containing the precious promises of God is free for all, then let us with willingness, obey the com mands found therein, for joys everlasting await us if we are faithful to the end and do the works of him that sent us. Let ua rf member that the best and sweetest flowers of Paradise, God gives to bis poople when they are upon their knees. Prayer is the gate of heaven, or key to let us in to Par td ise. I hope that every Christian who may glance at these few lines may breathe a prayer that God's blessing may fall upon all those who are work ing to the advancement of God' Tb Charm Worked. The -aow girl paused, and glanced at her rejently acquired mistress. This business of pol ishing silver in profound silence was getting on her nerves. She would eudeavor to get it oil. "Ain't it n'ce to get the laugh on people?" she inquired cheerily. All her life the mistress had been accused of being too easy with her "girls." This time she would begin aright, so she mere ly raised her eyebrows and re marked, "Is it?" But the new. comer was chill proof. ' Oh, yes," she continued blithe ly, "me an' my sister have the laugh on all the people in Eliza oeth (that's where my sister lives.) You see, her little girl had whooping cough an' every body said she'd have it 12 weeks.'' The mistress remembered hearing a voice, singularly like her own, that had lifted itself up, and proclaimed: "If the em ployers of domestic help would remember that their maids are human beings and not machines, the servant problem would solve itself." So she felt constrained to ask. "And did she have it all that while?" "No, she didn't; a lady gave her a cure; she says, Get up every morning for three days just at dawn. Then pull a hair from the very middle of the baby's head; after that split open a piece of meat and put in the huir. Then tie the meat to a piece of bread an' feed it all to a big black dog. In three days the dog will have the whooping cough an' the baby will be bet ter." "And was she?" meekly in quired the owner of the silver. "Sure she was," retnrned the teller of strange tales. "And the dog?" "He coughed so the man in the next house poisoned him. ". THOMPSON.
