Last Saturday Nlgkl, John W Snyder, Near Knobtvltle, Caae4 Maa That Had At tempted to Rarflariie HI Haute. About midnight last Saturday night, the family of John W. Sny der, who live below Hersbey's mill, near Knobsville, were arous ed by a noise at the sitting room window. Mr. Snyder and other members of the family arose, and sought to find the cause. Upon opening the door, a man was seen to leap from the porch and run away. Further investigation showed that both cellar doors had been opened, and there was every evidence leading them to believe that the midnight visitor meant no good. Soon thereafter they beard the intruder crossing a nearby bridge in a buggy, and then Mr. Snyder hastened to the barn, mounted a fleet horse and smarted in pursuit. The nU'ht was still, and when the robber heard the sound of the horse's feet when crossing the bridge, he whipped up and lit out in gre.it shape. He, however, had too much of a start on Mr. Snyder, and aft er having gone a distance of a mile darted into the woods on a "blind" roadaud kept very still while Mr. Snyder passed him. After going a considei able distance further, and not seeing anything of his fu gitive, Mr. Snyder concluded that the man had gone into the woods, and returned to keep watch until daylight. The burglar made good bis escape, however, and now Mr. Snyder has both eyes open, and expects to be able to make it inter esting for somebody yet. A NARROW bSCAPE.
