A recent New Jersey decisiou in a divorce case illustrates the confusion of marital relations caused by conflicting state juris diction. Barton Sewell obtained a divorce in Tennessee and mar ried again in New Jersey. His first wife sued hirn for divorce in New York, naming the second wife as co respondent. She won her case, the courts holding that the Tennessee divoVce wasn't val id in New York. Then the second wife brought suit for divorce iu New Jersey, and the master in chancery to whom the case was referred has recommended that the marriage be set aside on the ground that the husband had an other wife living at the time, al though by Teuuessee law he was a single man. This thiug of be ing more or less married, as it may happen, according to State residence is a source of moral con fusion that has become a national disgrace.
