Don't tie a cough or a cold up
iu your system by taking a rem
edy that binds the bowels. Take
Kennedy's Laxative Honey and
Tar. It is different from all oth

opens the bowels expels all cold
from the system, relieves coughs,
colds, croup, whooping cough,
etc. An ideal remedy for young
and old. Children like it. Sold

Eleven thousand immigrants,
many, no doubt, of the lowest
class and wholly undesirable as
citizens, arrived in this country
at the port of New York recently.
It is high time the immigration
laws of this country were made
stringent, for at the present time
we are getting the scum of Eur
ope and with it many of the worse
criminals that the continent pro
duces. Put up the bars against
this class, for if thty are not good
enough for Europe .hey are not
good enough for us.

Miss Fern Bernhardt.
Whereas, It has pleased the All
Wise Father to remove from our
association our esteemed friend
and sister Miss Fern Bernhardt,
therefore be it resolved that we
bow humble submission to our
Father's will, and say not our will
but thine be done.
The deceased departed this life
April 7, 1D06, at the home of her
grandfather, Job Mellott, with
whom she had been living, her
grandmother being an invalid.
She leaves to mourn her loss
her mother, one sister, and two
brothers and a host of friends.
She was a member of the Cedar
Grove Christian church and a
very regular attendant of thoSun
day school at Franklin Mills.
Her death was quite a shock to
the community as she had been
sick but two weeks, and was get
ting better until Saturday, when
a change for the worse came
which resulted fatal in a few
hours.
This seemed doubly sad as she
was only about 16 years of age,
and while so young she leaves a
monumenton the sands of timeof
her christian character, an exam
ple which is worthy of imitation.
The funeral was conducted by
Rev. A. G. B. Powers, of Need
more at Cedar Gn.vo on Monday
of last week.

We clip the following from one
of our exchanges. That it origin

no doubt. Some of our Hunting

to imagine anything. Sure we

lnan opinion replying to a ques
tion from J. K. L. Mackey, health
officer of Shippensburg, as to the
liability of the borough for pay
ment of expenses incurred by the
local health boat d in employing a
physician to vaccinate school
ohildren whose parents were too
poor to pay and for which the
borough council refused to make
appropriation. Attorney Gener
al Carson says the council cannot
arbitrarily refuse to make an ap
propriation. He adds that the
question can be raised in the
courts by manadamus issued at
the instance of theboard of health,
or in an action of assumpsit by
the doctor against the borough.

Terrible Experience,
Due of the moat fiendish crimes
iu the history of the county was
enacted in Huntingdon Friday
night last, when D. I. Bennett,
who keeps a grocery store at 1 1th
and Miflin streets, was knocked
down, bound and gagged, his
pockets riffled, store robbed aud
then set on fl re, and he left to per
ish in the flames. It was about
11:110 in the evening when the as
sault was made, and the fire was
not discovered for over an hour,
the building then being all in a
blaze, and Mr. Bennet was res
cued in an almost lifeless condi
tion. The contents of the store
was destroyed. No insurance.
Loss on contents $1000. Mayor
Fisher offers a reward of $500
for the arrest of the would-be
murderers.

Pension Law.
The age limit pension bill pass
ed by both houses of congress
has become a law. Under its pro
visions when a soldier of the Civ
il War arrives at the age of 00
years, he 1 allowed $0 per month
without examination as to disa
bility. At CI he gets $8; at 70
years he is allowed $12. The
measure does away with any
question as to disability, and gives
every Boldier a pension regard
less of disease contracted in the
war or since that time.
