Whereas, It has pleased the All Wise Father to remove from our association our esteemed friend and sister Miss Fern Bernhardt, therefore be it resolved that we bow humble submission to our Father's will, and say not our will but thine be done. The deceased departed this life April 7, 1D06, at the home of her grandfather, Job Mellott, with whom she had been living, her grandmother being an invalid. She leaves to mourn her loss her mother, one sister, and two brothers and a host of friends. She was a member of the Cedar Grove Christian church and a very regular attendant of thoSun day school at Franklin Mills. Her death was quite a shock to the community as she had been sick but two weeks, and was get ting better until Saturday, when a change for the worse came which resulted fatal in a few hours. This seemed doubly sad as she was only about 16 years of age, and while so young she leaves a monumenton the sands of timeof her christian character, an exam ple which is worthy of imitation. The funeral was conducted by Rev. A. G. B. Powers, of Need more at Cedar Gn.vo on Monday of last week. Mackey, health officer of Shippensburg, as to the liability of the borough for pay ment of expenses incurred by the local health boat d in employing a physician to vaccinate school ohildren whose parents were too poor to pay and for which the borough council refused to make appropriation. Attorney Gener al Carson says the council cannot arbitrarily refuse to make an ap propriation. He adds that the question can be raised in the courts by manadamus issued at the instance of theboard of health, or in an action of assumpsit by the doctor against the borough. Terrible Experience, Due of the moat fiendish crimes iu the history of the county was enacted in Huntingdon Friday night last, when D. I. Bennett, who keeps a grocery store at 1 1th and Miflin streets, was knocked down, bound and gagged, his pockets riffled, store robbed aud then set on fl re, and he left to per ish in the flames. It was about 11:110 in the evening when the as sault was made, and the fire was not discovered for over an hour, the building then being all in a blaze, and Mr. Bennet was res cued in an almost lifeless condi tion.
