intendenb to serve duriug the
next three years is a short one

At one o'clock they assembled in
the Court House aud effected an
organization by making John
Comerer, ot McConnellsburg,
president, and Van Kelly of Dub
lin, and Amos N. Duvall of Brush
Creek, secretaries.
Dr. Sappington of Ayr, placed
the name of Prof. Barton before
the convention, mid J. H. II. Lewis
of Bethel, seconded the nomina
tion both gentlemen making
neat little speeches. There being
no other names presented, a bal
'lot was takeu which was unani
mous in favor of the present in
cumbent and a compliment to be
appreciated by any one.
The salary was fixed at 12O0 a
year.
There were lifty seven of the
seventy-two directors in the coun
ty, present.
. Abner Hart, Dead.
Just as we go to press, we
learn of the death of Abner Hart
at his home at Geary, Oklahoma,
on last Saturday morning.
Mr. Hart was a brother of
Enoch Hart (deceased), and Mrs.
Ahitnaaz Runyau, and was born
at Needmore on the 7th of Janu
ary, l-37. He had spent most of
his lite since early manhood in
the West.

Sunday at his homo at this place.
Miss Lillian Fleming left on
Saturday for a visit to friends in
Altoona.
Harry Mort and wife passed
through cur town Monday on the
way to visit the former's father,
J. S. Mort.
James Smith of .McConnellsburg
was enjoying the pleasant breezes
on Clear Kidge with his lady
friend last Sunday.
J. II. Fields has bad a very sick
horse from distemper, but with
good care it is getting better.
C. L. Henry is having his new
house plasterod. Charles Fields
and C. Orth are the workmen.
John Henry has had the house
plastered owned by Calvin Car
mack and will move into it in the
near future.
Miss Xora Heeter is home for a
brief time from Huntingdon, where
she has been employed.
William Sipes was the guest of
II. T. Ileeter on Saturday and
Sunday.
Walter Brown was at his home
on Sunday.
Mrs. Jennie Miller was the
guest of Alfred Brown's last Sat
urday night.
J. W. Mowers and wife culled
one evening last week on Clark
Newman's.
Mrs. Mertie Miller and son
Glen spent Saturday night with
Mrs. Sue Mowers'.
Joseph Alexander was in our
town a short time ago the guest of
his sister, Mrs. J. W. Mowers'.

Evans Huston.
With reference to the marriage
of Miss Amelia Huston, of Clear
Ridge, and Mr. Edmund Evans,
of Minnesota, mention of which
was made in this paper last week,
we clip the following from the
Minnesota Guard, a paper pub
lished in the groom's home town:
"A nice little wedding took
place Wednesday evening, half a
mile north of town on the Miller
farm. Mr. Edmuad B. Evans
and Miss Amelia Huston were
joined m marriage by Rev. SkuJts.
The bride is a young lady of fine
accomplishments. She arrived
Tuesday Ironi her former home
in Pennsylvania. The groom is a
young man of sterling qualities
who recently came from Iowa,
and now works the Miller farm.
We join the community in wel
coming this worthy young cou
ple in our midst and congratu

for the western part of this State
and West Virginia, where they
expect to spend some time.
Berte Hann, of Saluvia, was
both unlucky aud lucky 1 isl Wed

Mile Run. When he reached the
Stouo House ou Sidohng Hill, he
roached for his pocket-book in or
der to make some change for pro
duce, but it was not in his pocket.
Ho then began a search through
his wagon aud m every conceiv
able place where it might he. He
mounted his horse and started
down the mountain looking for
the pocket-book all along the way.
When just a little distance
above Hoover's Mill, he found it
lying in the road whore it had
dropped from his pocket. The
finding was 1 ho lurky part. We
will not say how much money was
in the pocket-book, but any(one
finding it might have known that
it had too much money to belong
to a school teacher or an editor.

Chester Brant has bought a
new buggy and new harness, and
soon will have a now horse brok
en to drive in the buggy.
George Finiff, Tod township's
veteran supervisor, was on busi
ness in this vicinity last week.
W. G. Wink and U. W. Wink, of
Hustontown, are plastering at
this place this week.

was not unreasonable, when he
refused to allo v the doctors to
operate on his wife, for female

last Sunday, and gave many good

Miss Annie Carbaugh, who was
visiting friends in Johnstown, Pa.
for the past two months, has re
turned home and reports a pleas
ant time.

ing her daughter, Mrs. R. R. Hoi
lenshead, and other friends in .ie
vicinity, during the past week.
Wilson Litton and wife, of Web
ster Mills, visited the former's
parents, T. B. Litton and wife.
T. B. Litton is preparing to
build a very fine house, which
will add much to the comtortof
his family.
Isaac Culler has been on the
sick list for the past two weeks.
James Snider is all smiles. It
is a girl.
Collie and Howard Pittman are
very buy manufacturing lumber
