Antitoxin for Fourth of July To meet the Fourth of July de mauds, large supplies of totauus an titoxin have beeu ordered for the sixty-seven distributing stations throughout the Commonwealth, by Dr. Samuel G. Dixon, Com missioner of Health. Despite the nation wide move ment for "A Safe and Sane Fourth", which has been steadily growing during the last few years, the total number of accidents resulting in the dreaded tetanus or lock-jaw, is greater on that day than any other in the three hundred ml sixty-live. The serum which the Depart ment of Health distributes to the poor is used to minimize the victims of lire-crackers, gun shot and other wounds. When it is used im mediately following t he accident or within twenty-four or even thirty six hours thereafter, the danger of infection is reduced to a minimum. A State Family Bible Kentucky is one of the southern steites which has recently adopted a modern law for the registration of vital statistics, says"The Journal of the American Medical Associa tion. Put into force a little over a year ago, it has been 011 trial. As usual, it encountered opposition. Some people were unable to see why births and deaths should be recorded; others did not like togo to the trouble to make out an ord erly record of these occurrences. Because physicians and medical organizations led the way in secur ing this needed legislation, it was of course, regarded as something for the benifit of physicians rather than for the public good. Shake speare asked —and so have many philosophers since his time— "What's in a name?" and the wisest of these inquirers have rec ognized the importance of naming a thing properly, if it is to stand well in the public eye. Evidently this fact is recognized in Kentucky. The leading editorial in the May 1 issue of the Kentucky Medical Journal, under the heading "Name the Babies," discusses some of the difficulties encountered in putting the new law into effect. In this connection, the editor philosphic ally refers to the State Bureau of Vital Statistics as "Kentucky's Big Family Bible.A happier name could not well be devised. When the people of Kentucky understand that the object of birth registration is to record the name and date of arrival of each little citizen of Kentucky, so that its legal identity may be established, and that the state is simply exercising the same care that leads a father to inscribe each birth in the family Bible, public support of the measure will be increased and assured. John Rich, who has been chosen "pound master" to succeed the colored wonder, Allen Daunon, has mapped out a plan which he believes will make his bank roll much fatter be fore the year rolls around. First, he gets 50 cents a dog from the city, next he intends to skin the animals and sell the hides for leather. The meat he will crush and the oil extracted he will sell. He declares that this has been found a genuine cure for consump tion, and that there is a big demand for it. The Hesh is to be used to feed chickens and the bones will be crushed for fertilizer. He says he will use all the dog but the Itark. Will Buy Wool 1 I wish to announce that I am 1 buying washed and unwashed wool. 1 am paying 'J'J cts per lb. in trade, 120 cts per lb. cash.
