Base Ball Lilc at the Covnty Capitol.
Two tine games of ball were play
ed on the athletic grounds since our ,
last issue. On Saturday a fine team j <
from Estella defeated our home team
by the score of 7to (5. The absence '
of Lorah, regular catcher for Laporte
A. A. pro veil disastrous, but the
game was a good one.
On Tuesday the crack team of ;
St. Joseph's Seminary at William
sport, visited Laporte and the most
interesting game of the season £re- j
suited. The L. A. A. strengthened i
by Mercer and Cunningham proved j
to I>e the slightly better team, win
ning by the score of 5 to 3. Sulliv
an, pitcher for St. Josephs, and
Carpenter, for Laporte each struck ,
out 14 men. But nine clean bits|
were made, four off Carpenter and
five off Sullivan. Pennock made
the winning hit with a two bagger
which drove in two runs.
It is a sad fact to record but at
each of these games the Athletic
Association lost money. This As
sociation has provided a fine ground
and has given the town real base
ball, but they are not supported by ,
the people. From the stand point
pride alone these games,
should be better attended and we
hope this suggestion will be acted '
upon for the remainder of the sea
< son. I
