At September term of court a charter was granted to Mountain Ash Cemetery Association, of La porte. I'nder its provisions the man agement of 1 he corporation i- vested in a hoard of seven directors to lie chosen at the annual meeting of the .stockholders to the heiil upon the first Monday in August. L'utii the lirst election, seven of the stockhold ers were named in the charter to act until the tirst election. At a meet ing of the directors held last week the follow ing organization effected: President, John L. Smyth; Secreta ry, F. \V. Meyiert; Treasurer, W. C. Mason; members E. P. Ingham, A. J. Hack ley, J. V. I'inkle, ami T. J. Keeler. The charter provides for two hun dred and fifty shares of stock at two dollars per share. .Nearly one-half of the stock has been subscribed. If is provided that the capitalization may be increased to &2.000 by a ma jority vote of the stockholders. A deed conveying the old ceme tery to the new corporation has been made. The Association is also great ly indebted to T.J. and E. P. Ing ham for the conveyance, at a merely nominal (onsideraiion, of over half an acre of land lying south and east of the present cemetery enclosure. With this donation, the Association now has ample grounds for years to come. Many improvements are be ing plannep by the directors ann all i who are interested in the cemetery are to tie congratulated that the prop Jer steps have been taken for its care I and preservation. \ The Home Department of the I E.V.Sunday School at N'ordmont has just been reorganized. This pro mises to be very successful in the I near future. A I> VEKTJSKMENT. Georgia and Her Hypocrisy. Undoubtedly one of the most mis erable shams in the history of State legislation has retentlj* been acoom ! plished by Georgia. | Great stress has been laid upon the i fact and it is clothed with importance, j since it tends to show the emotional signs of Ihe times, that Georgia lias j jumped from local option to Prohibi tion. Now by law liquor cannot be made, or sold, or given away, and even the drug stores are prohibited from supplying to the sick or the dying any stimulant with the excep tion of pure alcohol. If a physician finds that champagne, now so fre quently used in the sick room and in hospitals, or brandy is necessary the law demands that the patient shall die rather than the liquor prescrip tion shall be filled at the drug store. The cjafty politicians who are rid ing into power and grift 011 the top wave of this prohibition sentiment in the South in their zeal even struck at the religion of our Lord and Saviour, since the law forbids the administra tion of wine in the churches in con nection with the holy sacrament. Hut how came Georgia to enact such a sweeping interdict ' there is al ways one side to a story and this one has two. To pass prohibition it had to be baseTl upon race prejudice. Liquor was too good for the "nigger" and his foster brother, the "pom white trash." Stop it, and "nigger" crime against womanhood will cease was the argument, and it caught the minds of emotional and thoughtless men and women. Hut Prohibition could not be pass ed in Georgia either on moral or tem perance grounds which has been claimed. It was only passed upon the promiee to rob the "nigger" of his right to vote. It passed one day by a vote often to one. and mark you the very next day the legislature passed an act disfranchising the negro. 1 lere was a questionable political deal and a bargain that was manipulated and accomplished by the politicians both within and without the church. Now mark again the subsequent 1 action of this same Georgia Legisla J ture. Within a week following its i hysterical adoption of prohibition b\ j a vote entijelv unanimous it passed a | club act taxing every social club which dispences liquors to its mem bers three hundred dollars. And the politicians now smile while the deceived clergyman and his church member who were used in the drama to«rob the negro of his vote j are measuring the breadth and depth j of their bunco. Hut the hotels do not ; smile, nor does the farmer who all his ! life has been making his own peach brandy which he drinks with the! addition of a drop of honey. Upon 'ln* first of .Unitary, 190,>. the| liar of ever\ hotel inu«t be clone*)—eviti j the rooms h.- to liquor*, the drug*tore ; save ns to alcohol. Hut around tin- corner, or at the next i crow* road will lie the club. Home life < next year will not lie known to Georgia, 1 in so lar as the men are concerned, and j it will soon reach the club life of the ( women. How eas\ to t".»rn 1 a club. Rent w room. I charge each member titty cent* for his l key. lie take- in hi* friends, pay.- for j t lie drinks, and afterwards divides the! expense. This is not gentleman), but ill illl e pace set by hvpocricy. Every 'wet' member of the Legislature i anted for the $3(10 club tax hill: everv ! 'dry' member did likewise. Why? He- I cause they thought the negroes could not j form clubs and pay a tax of st.ioo.oo. I>lll we shall see. In Georgia since ISC'# they have ad-i vanced more than the white race, hence 1 I lie jealousy, t lie persecution, a State's! hypocrisy. "Puck" recently published a fine car 1 toon 011 its front page. It was the Cut man el 1 ieorgia, raised on his liquor drinking, to the lean man from Maine, i (ieorgia was imbibing from a bottle mark- j ed "Lemon Phosphate,"—the man from Maine, tall, lean and lank, was imbibing j from a bottle marked, "(.'old Ten." And thus hypocrisy, through the laws assail- j ing personal libirtv, extends from Maine to Ueorgia.— Adver. TKACIIKRS' MEETING.
