A pleasant surprise was tendered Mrs. S. Mead, on Friday of last week in honor of her USth birthday. Her daughter Mrs. T. .J. Kecler with whom she is spending the winter invited a large number of ladies to spend the afternoon and evening at her home to celebrate the event. Mrs. Mead was delight ed as well as surprised to meet so many of her friends who present ed her with pretty tokens that show ed the esteem in which she is held in (his community. At six o'clock splendid refreshments were served after which the evening was spent in a social way. A unique contest held by the W. C T. I . ol Forksville culminated last Friday March \2'2, 1007 by a re ception held at the home of Mrs C' M. Huckle. The object of the contest was to secure new members for the I nion. At the suggestion of xh,» County President two lead ers were appointed and the mem bership equally divided. The los ing side to entertain the new immihcrs and the winning side. Mrs. S. A. Snyder and Mrs. Jessie Andrews were appointed leaders., and after an interesting rivalry somewhat interrupted by illness and bad roads, eight new members wen secured, live by the w inning side led by Mrs. Andrews add three by the losing side. The losing side furnished elegant refreshments for the reception. The menu consisted of articles beginning with one of Ihe letters W. C. T. IJ.
