Ing ham, at that place, was quite ill, but she has improved and is in her normal health at this time. Ellen MeCarty died at the home of her brother Able MeCarty, in Falkland Township, on July 13, aged (I t years and ii months. She had re sided for many years with her sister, Mrs. Theodore Heess, from whose home the funeral was held. Miss MeCarty was a thorough Christian woman, and she leaves a large circle of friends to mourn her loss. There will be services in the Methodist Episcopal church next Sunday as follows: Sunday School at 10:00 A.M. Preaching at 11:00 A. M. Theme, "The Kingdom of <Jod". Epworth League at 7:150. The largest lake trout ever captur ed at Harvey's Lake, has been caught there by M. R. Williams. It weighed 14 pounds and is 34 inches long. This is the largest fish ever known to have been taken from inland waters in this part of the state, the nearest approach to it being a 12-pound lake trout caught in Harvey's Lake some time ago. Miss IlattieStraub, a waitress in Williamsport, Is at her home at Trout Hun, a physical wreck as the result of a joke. On the Fourth of July a "practical joker" tossed a live crab into her lap ut the restaurant where she was employed. The fright caused nervous prostration and on Monday she was seized with convul sions. While the wife of Sheritr Broad knight of Wayne county was carry ing supper to the prisoners in the county jail at Honesdale, two of them attacked her and secured the keys and made their escape. An alarm was at once given but so far no trace of them has been found. An important law affecting the loaning power of national banks has just, become active. Banks are au thorized to make loans equal to ten percent of their capital and surplus combined, no single loan is to exceed 30 per cent of the bank's capital. The controller of the currency has notified bankers that the new law will be rigidly enforced and they must adjust their loans accordingly. State Treasurer Berry has received from the Tinted States government a check for $25,000, which under an act of congress, is the state's share of the fund for the endowment and equipment of agricultural and me chanical schools. The monev was placed in the general fund. HILLSGROVE. Ilillsgrove's Sullivan County Champions added another game to their string of victories when they defeated the strong Monroe ton team by the score of 'J to 3, at Islam! Park, last Saturday evening. The game was scheduled to come off at 3 p. m. but a heavy thunder j shower came up about that time and delayed the game until after live o'clock. The people were not easi ly scared out though and when the game started the best and biggest crowd of the season was on hand. Proctor Forksville ami Sones' Lum ber Camps contributed generously. Hillsgrove won the game in the llrst inning when they scored K runs on live hits, 5 passes, '2 wild pitches and 2 errors. After that inning Bullock wisely took to the woods and Northup relieved him. Northup pitched a good game, only one" run and four hits were made off him during the seven innings he pitched. If he had went in at the beginning no telling what might have happened. For Hillsgrove, Woodley pitched a steady game and held the visitors safe at all stages and the game was never in danger. Next Saturday, the 28th., Ralston plays Hillsgrove at Hillsgrove. This game promises to be the best of the season, as each team has won two games from the other and both are playing the fastest l>all of their career this season. Mintzer and Thomas will be the battery for Ralston, Woodley and Morris for Hillsgrove, J. H. Bachle will um pire. The game will be called at 2 p. m. sharp so the Ralston team can take the 4 p. m. train home. The boys had been arrested by the company's de tectives and when arraigned they pleaded guilty. The police tourt told the boys' mothers, who were present in court, that a good sound application of birchen rod would be better than a tine, so the mothers went at it. A stout whip was brought into court and then for a few minutes the air was agitated good and plenty. One woman said it was the easiest live dollars she had e\er earned. S. D. Murphy, a Dusliore man employed at Wilkes-Bar re as a teamster, was killed Sunday night in collision with a Sugar Notch street ear. He was driving up I Hazel street on the car track, and a car coming down struck him be fore the motoruian could stop. His vehicle was smashed into kindling wood, and Murphy was thrown | violently to the pavement, striking on his head with terrific force; one le,* was also badly crushed, anil he | died in a few hours at the Mercy hospital. Bryee Smith, aged eight years of Benton, Columbia county, who it is thought is sutTering from hydropho bia, was taken to the Williamsport h ispital for treatment Monday. The boy was bitten by a dog sup posed to he mad, on May I. The Wound had healed up apparently, hut a week ago the lad became ill and showed signs of rallies. He has been having convulsions, hut was not suffering from them on arriving at the hospital. At a cost of more than 8100,000 the Consolidated Telephone com panies of Pennsylvania have finish ed the installation at their Allen town plant of what the officers claim to be the most complete exchange ever devised. On Sunday night it will be thrown into public use. The "girlless"' exchange has a ca pacity for 4,000 instruments which can be enlarged to one of 0,000. The hotel known as the "Com mercial House", situate on Main Street in Laporte Borough, will be sold cheap and on easy terms ol pay ment.
