THE REPUBLICAN. W. M. OHBHKT. - - - - E.lMor. faiOAT, noVKMBEU ho, IM»4 The IMale tor+»irf MM Tbe Stele Forestry bill proposes lo establish three forest reserfation* one in Pike. Monroe, Luzerne or jLacka wanna counties ; a second in Hullirao, Lycoming, Clinton, Centre or Potter counties, and the third in Clearfield, Elk, Cameron, McKeou or Forest eouutics. The first will cover the headwaters of the Delaware, the Lehigh and the Sorth Branch ol the Susquehanna ; the seeood til* West Branch of the (Susquehanna, auJ the third both the •treams which flow into the .Susque hanna and those like the Allegheny River, which eventually flow into the Ohio and find their outlet in the Gulf ot Mexico. A glance at the map will show that the water ways of many States besides those of Pennsylvania will be served by tho establishment of three not extensive forest reservations in Northern Pennsylvania. The bill also provides that at least 60 per cent, of the land to be embrac ed in these reservations shall have an altitude of at least 800 feet above the »ea, and it is lurthermorc pro posed that the attent ion of the public shall he called to the importance of this region as a public sanitarium. The discovery of the beauty and the healthfuluess of the mountain region of Pennsylvania, a discovery that has practically been made by the Forestry Commission, will be a great benefit to the people of the region and to the residents of Pennsylvania cities. For y ears Cue hay lever vic tims, sutlers from asthma, malaria and other complaints have been making long iourneys in search of relief, when within a fcix horns' ride of Philadelphia they could find every thing except the crowds that they lind at Bethlehem or any of the pop ular mountain resorts. The intelligence of the Stile will throw all its influence in favor of the Forestry bill and the benefits to be derived from H, the protection of Ihe water supplies ot cities and towns the prevention of disastrous floods and the preservation of the fore.-ts, and will cause to be numbered among the friends of the measure all those persons who must see a direct and immediate lelurn for any outlay. —Philadelphia Inq. County Commissioners, Farrell, Litzelman and Webster, have pur chased a large wind mill which wi'l be placed over the well in the court house yard for the purpose of pump ing water into the wafer tank in the courthouse building. This tank will supply the fceater and clos ets wiih water. The mill will be hoist cd.thirty feet in the air and with the every day breeze at Lnportc, will be kept constantly in motion. This move of the Commissioners is right, nnd proper, because without a good supply of water much damage could be done to the heater, and to, with a hose attached, would be of much service in case of fire. The mill cost 1130,00 and will be erected the fore part of next week. They Will Give ThankN, Wasiiinotox, Nov. 25.—Presi dent and ilrs.
