ClevclniDl's Lcltvr, Grover Cleveland's letter of ac ceptance, the expectation of the coming of which lias been keeping the Democrats uneasy for a long time, was sent flashing over the wires Monday. It evidently required a vast amount of hard thinking on the part of the Democratic candidate, with the assistance ol the best brains at national headquarters, to get the document in presentable shape, so that its author be not misunderstood. In this the coterie have been snc cessful, and Republicans in particu lar can peruse with much pleasure the effusion of the great statesman whose writings generally accomplish the right result at the right time— Republican success. As was to be expected Mr. Cleve land endorses the principles of the parly whose standard bearer he is ; lie endorses and approves the per nicious free trade plank of the Chi cago platform, and stands before the people on the very issue he created by this famous message which caused bis overwhelming do feat. It may be called "taiiff re form" or any other name, but the people will not lose sight of the fact that the party that nominated Cleveland, and the nomination that Cleveland now accepts, denounces "Republican Protection as a fraud." The letter will be found interest ing, and is deserving of careful read, ing. Both the leading candidates have I) )w been heard from, both have ex pressed themselves 011 the issues, and the people are to be the judges. The one stands for Protection and Prosperity, the other for taiiff re form and Free Trade. 118 IS A ItlTi:ltl.U A\ XOW. Samuel Goodhue ot Jamison City-, registered at the LaPorte Hotel Sunday. Mr. Goodhue is general superintendent of the Proctor tan nery at the City, hence, it can not lie presumed that his visit to La- Porte on a Sabbath could be re lating to business matters connected j with the tannery. They say, how | ever, that his fivquent visits to our town are of a business nature and perfectly proper on a Sabbath. ' Judge C. D. Hldred met with an accident near Montgomery on Satur day night last by which he was quite badly hurt. The Judge and his son, County Surveyor Edward .1. Eldred, had been in the While Deer Valley doing some surveying. When they returned to Allenwood on their re- ' turn home, they found that the train i did not stop at that station, so they • concluded to walk to Montgomery. When at Black Creek an approach- ' ing freight train caused the Judge ' to step on tho wall of a culvert, and I as tho night was very dark, lie got , too near the edge, and loosing his , balance fell into tho abyss, a dis— ' tance of 20 feet, breaking several I bones in his shoulder, but we are ' glad to say he is now improving and i his familiar face will be seen on the j streets again in a few days,—Muncy I Luminary, ' j -W C T A DEPARTMENT CONDUCTED BY MKMBEKIOF TIIE W.
