SOCIETY OF LAPORTB, PA. ■low Lady ftomeraet Became ui Abstainer. Wr.s told by her in the foiling manner:— "I see before mo a happy home with all that wealth, luxury and rank can give. I see two happy children come down to their dinner time alter time, and I see the happy father and mother laugh to see thcße children flrink the wine set betore them. At last it became known that something is wrong. I see the boy on his way to college and by-and-by I see him n sad and hopeless drunkard. I saw liim at twenty-three all the grace and beauty gone from his once fair face, and at twenty four I saw him laid in a drunkard's giavc. But the girl she grew to the sweetest womanhood I ever saw, and had as a wife every thing this world could give her, but by-and-by I saw a little cloud uo bigger than a man's hand rise over and shadow that young life. I prayed with her. I wept with her. I implored her by all she held sacred, to pause. Her reply was that if 1 became a total abstainer she would: I had never thought of that before I hesitated. I said, 'Let me thinl this thiug over. I thought about it. and when I saw her again I told her 1 wonld do it to save her, but it was to late. She said. You are too late; I cannot give this thing up.' "To night that home is broken up. The children know something is wrong with the mother, and the husband is heartbroken, and I know that if ] had not hositated that day I might h;ive saved that woman. With this i experience when God gave me a | a true light on this question, I told liim I would go out and plead with men and women and do battle with this gigautio evil."—Summer set Visitor.
