P» The State finance. Ttie nineteenth annual session of the Pennsylvania State Grange con vened in the House of Representa tive, at 2:30 pin. Dec. Bth 1891 W »rthy Mahler Leonard Rhone pre sided and delivered bis annual ad dress which was a sound practical and conservative paper, well worth the study of every citizen of this Commonwealth. The roll cf officers beinji called showed a'l present but two. who came in later. Over 600 Grangers were represented an«l the greatest harmony and enthushsm for i he success of the Grangers cause prevailed. Asside from appointing a committee on credentials, no other business «as transacted at the after noon session. At the evening session Worthy Post Lectuter, S R. Downing read an excellent paper on ''Brotherhood." Prof. Holies Chief of the Bureau of Statistic* of Internal Alfairs, was then introduced Hud delive-ed tin in teresting address on the past and present condition of the farmer and his prospects for a prosperous fu~ ture. Representative Tewksbury of Columbia, and Hen.-itor Lotrun of Crawford, escorted the Governor to the meeting, which was then in open session. The Governor spoke on Taxation, the Road Law and the Public Schools, and congratulated the people of Pennsylvania, because our great commonwealth is now practically free from debt. Most of the sessions on Wednes day were taken up in appointing the following committees viz : On Good of the order ;On Education ; On Corporation ; On Resolutions . Legislation ; Agriculture ; Trans portation ; and Constitution ; and getting them to woik and in calling the counties and introducing resolu tions which were reffered to the proper committees. Col. A. Prire of Scranton, President of the National Board of Trade, was escorted to the rostrum at 2 p. m.and delivered an excellent address in which he proposed to the farmers of the state, the ad visability of holding a joint con ference in the city of llarrisburg, in January next, where representatives of all the various industries of the state should meet together for the purpose of formulating a bill for the equalization of taxes that might be accepted hy all. At the evening session a class of about 150 lifth degree meml>ers re ceived tLii sixth degree. All day Thursday was taken up by the reports of the chairmen of the several committees, the discus sionofthe resolutions offered by them and passing upon them. In the evening a member on the finan cial committee was elected and three members oft he executive commit tee. The balance of the eve ing was taken up in exemplifying the un written work of tie order. On Fridav the remainder of the committees made their report ami the work of this meeting hurried to a close. It wits really a grand meeting of the farmers of Pennsylvania, and shows that they :tre in earnest, and will be a power lor good in the fu ture politics of the slate.
