I The Prohibitionists of Sullivan county held a convention in 188'.), 185)0 and IS9I. In '81) they were represented by a very large gather ing in '9O considerably smaller in '9l the}' were represented by nine delegates. What will the future be? The audience grew smaller as time elapsed. One of the things of which La- Porte has been proud is her side walks, but she can boast in this direction no longer, all because of the neglect and carelessness of property owners. At least one-half of our walks have become so broken that they are unsightly, and un pleasant to walk upon, and these walks are found'everywhere, eveu in the best part of town. The pamphlet laws for 181)1 have been completed and printed, and are now being issued by the State de partment. This pactice by both parties should be stringent ly inforctd, that new comers shall stand cm side for county spoils un- ! til the okl have been served. As j remarked the other day by a Demo- 1 crat—"We have live hundred or more old residents of the county, well fitted to serve our county of fices, and to them should be honored the nominations." This is true and must be admitted by all. Farmers Take Notice. Joseph Slmfier of LaPorte twp., and aboit 3 miles from LaPorte boro., is operating a lime kiln with extra go»d success. PROHIBITION COUNTY CONVEN TION. A Bma il gathering of the Prohi. at La- Porie Friday, Pursuant to a call the Prohi. County Convention convened in the Court House at LaPorte, on Friday Aug. 14th, at 2 p. m. Chairman, John \V. Grange called the gather ing to order. J. W. Ballard of LaPorte, was made chairman of the meeting and Irvin Woodhead of Elklaud, was elected secretary. On calling a list of the 14 pre cincts of the county it was learned that there were but three, (3), Elk land, Forks, and LaPorte boro., represented in the convention. Nominations were made as fol lows : For Associate Judges; John An drews of LaPorte and Joel L. Moly neux of Forks. For Jury Com missioner ; T. J. Keeler, of LaPorte. After some consideration it was resolved th.it the party do not nom inate a District Attorney. The fol lowing gentlemen were elected as delegates to the State Convention which will convene at Ilarrisburg on ' the 26th of this month, viz : Abram Vough, of Forks, T. J. Keeler, La- Porte, Irvin Woodhead, Elklaud, and John W. Grange, Elkland. In the evening a Prohi. speech was delivered in the Court House by a Mr. Hayder of Bellefoute. llis argument was to insult the Re publican party. We dou't imagine that there will be a very big swell in the Prohi. vote at this place this Fall. It would have to be a very weak minded man that would allow Mr. llayder to influence him.
