When Dr. H. S. Fish, the at- tending physician, first reported the case 10 the board of health, the gues- tion of placing the entire hotel under quarantine was first deemed advis- able, but ‘when the matter was looked into thoroughly It was conceded that the borough might be liable for dam- ages that might result from closing up the hostelsy. In order to settle the matter a meeting of the board iwas called for last evening It de- veloped that the diphtheria patient oc- upled a room in what is known as the western annex. The room is located on the fourth floor and is practically isolated from the general public When these facts became known to the board it was the consensus of op- inion among the members of the board that the interests of the public would be effectually protected by placing the western annex under quarantine. The health board also ordered that those who had been oc- cupying rooms in the western annex should remove to other quarters. After the meeting of the board of Health Officer Brougham went to the hotel! and placed a rope at the head of the stairs leading to the annex A sheet was hung on this rope and th: quarantine card has been attached to the sheet. The patient is reported this morn- ing to be improving slowly and the disease Is of a mild type SAYRE SCHOOL BOARD SETTLES WITH W. 5. & A. The Sayre borough school directors held a short special session last even- ing to take action with reference to the case of the Waverly, Sayre and Athens Traction Company versus the school district. It will be remember- ed that recently the borough councii decided to refund to the traction com- pany the money which had been paid by the latter for taxes. A similar case was pending with the school district and the directors at the ‘meeting last night decided to follow in the footsteps of the council and re- imburse the company It was also decided to pay a Lill amounting to $75 presented by I. George Ritz died at his home, No. 307 North Lehigh avenue, Sayre at 1047 o'clock last night of apoplexy, aged 52 years. He was born In Sglii- van county, N. Y., where he resided in early life, but removed to Wilkes- Barre on arriving at the age of man- hood. He was mdrried to Miss Apna Drum of Wilkes-Barre and togethe; they came to Sayre 26 years ago, where he worked at his trade as a bailer maker up to the time of his death gle was seized with his fatal illness while attending a meeting of his fellow craftsmen on Thursday evening.
