Reed will known here, On Monday they present for the first time at popu- Mr. James Was Handsomely Remembered Last Night by Men Employed under Him Just alter the whistle blew at six o'clock last night Chief Clerk Stark at the new shops told E. T James, the retiring superintendent, that his presence was desired in one of the galleries, When Mr. James arrived there he fcuad the gallery filled with shop mea who bave been employed under him ever since the shops were started in op eration over a year ago. M. H. Sawtelle, cashier, of The Nationa! Bink of Sayre icted as spokesman for the men, and on their behalf presented Mr. James a handsome gold watch and chain, and several pieces of furniture consisting of a fine leather couch, two leather cov- ered Morris chairs, and several sectional bookcases. Mr. Saw- telle in presenting the articles to Mr. James referred to the latter in most commendatory terms, and told him that the men in the shops exceedingly regretted his depart- ure and that the presents were merely tokens of their esteem, Mr Sawtelle also assured him of the well wishes of the citizens of Sayre declaring lhat every one acquainted with his work while in Sayre would be sorry to loose him as a citizen ard a business man. Mr. James replied feclingly and appro- priately. The furniture and watch will be on exhibition in J. W. Grumme's furniture establishment for several days in order to give the public in general an opportunity to view them, Mr, James has not as yet announced his plans for the future. AWAITING A RAISE The employes of the various railroads await with breathless in- terest the official announcement of the rumored increase in .wages No class of wage earners deserve better recompense than men who are engaged inrailroading. From the track hand to the man who takes the tickets on the passenger train the uadertaking is hazwdous and those engaged in it should res ceive the highest consistent re. muneration. Sayre is distinctly a railroad center, probably the most important in this section of the couniry, and an increase in wages among the men would be greatly appreciated. DECISION RESERVED The suit of G. F. Carling versus H. A. Kaufman occupied the atten- tion of Justice Carey this forenoon. The plaintiff sues to recover the sum of $39 for dental services, but there is a dispute as to the terms of the contract. Kaufman claims that he was not to pay anything until the entire contract was com- pleted, while the plaintiff says that he requires a deposit on all work. He claims that Kaufman refused to deposit anythiog and after $39 worth of work had been done the plaintiff refused to do any more until a settlement had been mane.
