The handle of a drill struck Lewis Benjamin a severe blow on the left wrist causing a severe strain and contusion. Johan Becraft, a switchman, went to the hospital last night where a wound 2 1-2 inches long in the scalp was closed by the surgeons at that institution. Becraft was walking along side the tank of an engine when a rake fell from the top striking him on the head. THE STORY OF A BROKEN BOTTLE A broken bottle of ketchup lying on the stone pavement“on Des mond street tells the story of a bloody scrap which occurred last might between 11 and 12 o'clock. The combatants had indulged free~ ly in liquid refreshments and then engaged in an argument which was followed by blows. One of the men in some manner secured a bottle of ketchup, with which he struck his antagonist over the head. The fellow who received the blow went to the hospital where several stitches werg required to sew up TOOK SULPBATE OF TING FOR SALTS Lloyd, the 16-year-old son of George Armstrong, went to the pantry at the family home this morning to secure a dose of salts. The salts had heretofore been kept in a can, but recently it appears the young man's mother had ckanged the salts to a paper sack, and had filled the can with sul. phate of zinc. Unaware of the H. H. Mercereau, Esq, will spend Sunday in Wilkesbarre, Miss Jessie Warner of Ithaca, is the guest of Miss Ethel Wood. Mrs. Edward Heckle went to Patterson, N. J., this morning where she will join her husband. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Reinwold left this morning for New York city where they will spend several days as the guest of friends. Mrs. Grace, who has been the guest of her sister, Mrs. B. L. Lewis, for severdl days, returned to her home at Jersey City this morming. Ed. Gay, Esq. left this morning for Aatictam, Md, where he will be the guest of the state of Pennsylvania at the unveiling of a soldiers’ monument. C. S. Claude Thompson Esq. of New York city, who has been spending several days in Sayre wisiting with friends and relatives, returned to his former home at Towanda this morning. C, gathered at the home of Mrs, William McDonald, 315 North Lehigh avenue, last night, and gave that lady a most pleasant surprise. During the even. ing she was presented a handsome rocker as a slight token of the esteem in which she is held by the organization of which she is a member. Ackley's orchestra furnished music for dancing which was enjoyed until a late hour. Re- freshments were served aad every body conceded that the evening had been most pleasantly spent, “JESSE JANES” It is without doubt: that there never was a more exciting history of the life of any man than that of Jesse James of Missouri. Press and public alike discussed his ex- ploits. The dramatization of the life of this famous man from boy- hood to his untimely ead has been accomplished and will be presented by Mitchell's All Star Players this evening. Althéugh the exciting incidents predominate there is plenty of good, refreshing comedy, and just enough pathos to make the play one of great interest.
