« Here in a Few Days
At the meeting of the board of
trustees held at Waverly last night
a communication was received from
Superintendent Case of the W., S,
& A. Traction Company stating
that orders had been placed for
enough fenders to equip all the cars
in the service, Some time ago the
Sayre borough council and the
board of trustees at Waverly ap-
the officials of the Traction com-
pany concerming the advisability of
placing fenders on the cars. At the
conclusion of the conference the
committees were given to under-
stand that fenders would be forth-
coming, and Superintendent Case
last night announced that they
are expected here in a few days
and would be placed onthe cars as
soon as they arrived.

week to play at the Broome Coun-
ty Centennial celetffation, The
baad had been engaged to play as

band men do not take kindly to
this proposition and it .is quite
likely that they will decide to
remain at home,

EVIDENCE WAS LACKING
Joe McCloskey, Will McMahon,
Bert Fisher, William Gorman,
Henry Johnson and Charles Cor-
bin, the young men who were ar
rested charged with engaging in a
riot, were arraigned last night be-
fore Justice Carey, and as there
was no evidence that they had
actually participated in the work
of the mob which operated here
several days ago, they were dis-
charged,
SERIES OF DANCES
The first of a series of winter
dances will be given by Harvey
Gray in Eighmey's hall on Satur-
day evening next. First class mu-
sic will be in attendance and the
prospects for a big crowd are ex-
cellent. Mr. Gray conducted
dances on Saturday evening all
last winter and they were exceed.
ingly popular. The same popular~
ity, if not greater, will be manifest-
ed again this winter,
WERE DRIVING. FAST
Yesterday afternoon two young
men, who came from Athens, were
driving a horse through the streets
of Sayre at a breakneck pace,
Chief Walsh stopped them on Des-
mond street, took possession of
the horse, but upon their promising
to arrive within the speed the
limit the animal was returned to
them and they drove toward home.
OAK GROVE PARK
Mitchell's All | Star Players open-
ed their engagement last evening
at Oak Grove park and were greet-
ed a full house. Every member is
certainly a star as was shown to a
good advantage in last night's play,
“The Two Orphans.” Tonight's
bill will be “Dora Thorne,” and
tomorrow night “Devil's Island"
will be presented.

I THE LOOKS
ALL NEXT WEEK
, The attraction for the week of
September 17 at the Loomis opera
house will be the NewYork Stand-
ard Stock Company, the value of
which can be but poorly described
in words. The plays are excellent,
the scenery plentiful and the play~
ers good. In “An Orphan's
Prayer,” a pastoral drama the
theme of which is surpassingly
beautiful, the scenery is so true to
Sature that tears of tender recollec-
n Gill’ the eyes of each beholder.
In “White Slaves of Egypt,” a
story of the slaves of the orient,
the palace of the Khedive with its
gorgeous castern celoring, the
oriental costuming, the great desert
scene, the battleship Brooklyn dur-
ing a storm at sea, are admirably
set forth, Queen of the secret ser-
vice has for its setting the plains
of Arizona and the picturesque
wildness of the mountains of Co's
orado, In the third act of this
great play a robbers’ camp is
shown and the enchanting loveli-
gess of a Colorado night is ex-
quisitely pictured in moonlight
effects. This is a grand scene.
Some of the scenes in “Young
King Brady Detective” take one
into the busiest portion of New
York city. This play has an intri-
cate plot and is one of the greatest
detective plays ever written. “A
Drunkard’s Daughter’ has magnifi
cent scenic equipment, as have
“A Woman's Worst Enemy" and
“The Wayward Child.” “While
Frisco Was Burning" is a spectac
ular treat. The earthquake scene
is very thrilling. The falling build-
ings, the lurid fire licking about the
ruins, the sight of the homeless
long remembered. There is a pa-
thetic story to this play and one
follows the fortunes of the unfortu-
nate characters with human heart
interest. There is a splendid vaude-
ville program- and a change of
specialties nightly, Ladies Monday
night 15 cents.
