REV. E. W. DEWITT Recent issues of the local papers contained accounts of the alleged troubles of the Rev. E. W. De- Witt and the North Main Avenue Baptist church at Scranton. The Rev. DeWitt was formerly pastor of the Baptist church at Athens, and is well known throughout this section. Today the Record re- ceived a letter from Mr, DeWitt and also a copy of the Scranton Republican, the latter containing an article relative to his resigna- tion. Mr. DeWitt, in his letter, says that his position in the matter has been misrepresented. While attending baseball games is said to have been the direct reagan for his resignation Mr. DeWitt a that that feature of the amount to anything. his church is united not going “to leave, aitnough We has resigned. The attraction is Lyman H. Howe's latest exhibi- tion of moving pictures. Mr. Howe always has a complete change of program at cach appears ance, and to say that his new pros gram surpasses all previous ones is putting it mildly, A pleasing feat- ure of this entertainment is the careful reproduction of the natural sounds as they would emanate from the real scenes. The crack of fireams, the puffing of engines, the cheering of multitudes, the shouts of individuals and all other sounds are so cleverly imitated that the scenes impress the, mind the same as if viewing them in reality. Ever since the mob came from Athens the other night there has been a feeling of insecurity among the residents across the tracks. They say that police should be on duty in that locality all night, and they have asked Chief Walsh to intercede. The contention of the citizens is well founded, Sayre needs more regular police officers. Not that the town is so bad or that there is an unruly criminal element, but for the reason that efficient police protection is almost a guarantee against disturbance of any kind. The Matter will probably be taken up at the next meeting of the bor ough council. PERSONAL MENTION L.M. Rice will go to New York tomorrow. S. J. Weller has gone to Potts- ville for a few, days visit.
