OAK GROVE PARK. - The “Minister's Sweethearts” proved a pleasing comedy drama at the park last night and brought out theatregoers in large numbers, The play is full of quaint hoosier characters to be found in the small towns of Indiana, and the narrow mindedness of the old mossbacks was well brought out Miss Ken- nedy, in a Sis Hopkins comedy part, was very funny and spoke the bright lines with telling effect, scoring every poiot. The balance of the company acquitted thems selves with credit. The bill will be repeated tonight, and tomorrow night “The College Girl" will be repeated by request. The engage- ment will close Saturday evening with a production of “The Admi- ral’'s Will" PROTECT YOUR HOMES Sayre housekeepers are warned not to leave their homes without proper protectiga tomorrow, circus day, as thieves generally follow in the path of all big shows. Another excellent idea is not to wear jewels ry out in the crowd or make a use~ less display of money or valuables, as clever pickpockets are always to be found where there are likely to be large crowds of people. The circus detectives will co-operate with the Sarye police tomorrow in locating crooks. HE WAS FRESH Yesterday afternoon complaint was made to Chief Walsh that a young fellow who was taking on ders for stereopticon views was annoying women upon whom he called. In fact it was said that he was altogether too fresh The chief looked the fellow up and he denied that he had offended any- one. As no warrants were issued he was not molested. 100 LONG T0 PUBLISH The medical department of the W.C.T. After a brief wedding trip in the cast, Mr, and Mrs. Watson will reside in their newly furnished home in Waverly. All Sayre dealers in groceries, clothing and hardware will close their places of business tomorrow Petty Thieves Are Giving Offi- cials of the Hospifal No End of Trouble A bunch of petty thieves and unidentified miscreants have re- cently been persistently annoying the officials of the hospital by stealing apples, corn, melons and other produce that grow on the grounds in the rear of the institus tion. The contemptible wretches are not content with taking apples that are lying on the en but they shake the trees of their fruit and destroy more than they take away, The thieving has been going on for some time. Part of it is done in the night, when honest people are asleep, while the broad daylight is chosen by those who appear to be blessed with colossal nerve. The thicving is not the work of children, but full grown men and boys are known to have entered the grounds and carried away fruit and vegetables which had been intended for the sick and suffering. Chief Walsh has been notified and if the despicable vul- tures are caught they will get the extent of the law, DESNOND STREET CLEIED TODAY Board of Health Takes Immed- iate Action After Proper Com- plaint Was Made Bright and early this morning two men with hoes and shovels began cleaning up the gutter on the west side of Desmond street, Yesterday's Record told of the fact that the insanitary condition of the street had been brought to the board of health and that body ordered that the street be cleaned atonce So today the street has been thoroughly cleaned and all the decayed matter and refuse re- moved. Notice to Taxpayers I will be at 124 Desmond street even 1:14 the Barnum & Bailey Circus early tomorrow and it goes without local enthusiasts will be on hand to welcome it. There is nothing in the general public quite so much as a big circus, From the time the transport the paraphernalia of the show arrives until the canvass city is erected and ready for tomorrow's will be something interesting to ser, The “runs” where the cars are unloaded will be the first scene of activity, but interest will quickly shift to the grounds, which will be the home of the show for the next cighteen hours. The first wagons to arrive on the lot will be those carrying the camp paraphernalia. These will be unloaded as rapidly as possible, and in less than an hour the cook and dining tents will be up and preparations under way for breakfast. There are over one thousand employes of the big shew who board at this “traveling hotel,” and the commissary department is one of the most interesting ad juncts of the institution. It requires a considerable outlay of money to feed the circus army, and this money is distributed among the husiness men where the show exhibits, Very little is car- ried over from day to day, except possibly canned goods. The big refrigerator on wheels which is a necessary part of the commissary paraphernalia rarely contains at night more than sufficient meat for the next day's breakfast. The daily requirements of the cook tent aver- age about as follows: From 1200 to 1500 pounds of meat, 15 barrels of potatoes, 8 barrels of beets, car- rots and turnips for soup, etc, 75 pounds of coffee, from 35 to 40 pounds of tea, and 2 barrels of sugar. [In addition to these gener- ous supplies the daily requisition of the chef calls for 4 cases of can- ned goods, 600 loaves of bread, an immense amount of butter and from 80 to 100 gallons of milk when it can be secured. All of these supplies have been contracted for in advance, and they will be de- livered on the show lot immediates ly after the circus arrives. The opening performance will be given at 2 o'clock and the final one at 8 p.m. The doors will be open an hour prior to the show to enable the public to visit the menagerie and see the giant and giantess, the Gulliver Lilliputians, the Scandina~ vian Gypsy dancers and musicians and other special features. The performance “in the hippodrome pavilion will open with the new and elaborate military and allegori- cal spectacle, “Peace.” Those who wish to avoid the crowds at the regular ticket wagons at the opening hours, may reserve grand stand chairs and box seats all day tomorrow, without any ad vance in price, at Andrus & Co.'s piano warerooms, 128 Desmond street, The show will exhibit at Wilbur and Mohawk streets ——————— Home Coming of Wm.
