Willard Kells Will Take Charge
of the Lehigh Valley Shops at
That City
Willard Kells, master mechanic
of the old Lehigh Valley railroad
shops at Sayre, has been appointed
to the position of master mechanic
of the company’s shops at Buffalo
and will go to that city tomorrow
to assume the duties of his new
position.
Mr. Kells came to Sayre three
years ago last May and had charge
of all the Lehigh shops up to the
time that the new shops were put
into operation. Since that time
most of the work has been done in
the larger shops and some of the
old shops have been practically
abandoned, although others were
run the same as before. He has
had charge of the old departmert
until the notice of his appointment
to the new position was given to
him.
The many friends of Mr. Kells
will very much regret his leaving
Sayre and will join in wishing him
the highest success in his new po-~
sition. So far as could be ascers
tained no one has yet been ap
pointed to fill. the place made
vacant at Sayre.
HOUSEBOAT PARTY
A staunch craft, fitly named “Go
As You Please,” anchored at the
Lockhart street bridge on the Sus
quehanna last night. The boat is
a commodious affair and is very
adequately fitted for a comfortable
cruise. The party comprised Judge
Newcomb, and Messrs, Valentine,
Coston and Dolan, all well known
Scrantonians. Frank O. Vaughn
of Mechoopany, well known in
Sayre, is commodore and has an
able assistant in the person of
Charles Westcott. The boat re
sumed its voyage today.
HORSES WILL RACE
The relative speed ability of two
horses Gilbert H. owned by Hill
& Beibach, and Harry P. owned by
James Vail has led to much dis-
cussion as the two horses have
raced twice and each has a victory
to his credit. Yesterday the own-
ers of Gilbert H. issued a challenge
for a race. This morning L. C.
Kitchen and T. P. Maney met and
made arrangements for a race, each
posting a forfeit of $10. Each
man will choose a driver, and the
date of the race will be announced
later.
The silver medal contest under
the auspices of the W.C.T. U.
took place last evening before a
good sized crowd in the Wheelock
chapel at Milltown. There were
six contestants and the declama-
tions were all along the line of
temperance. The contest was very
close and rather difficult of de-
cision. The medal was presented
to the winner by Mrs, Sylvia B.

The fine bay team that the Wil

was sold today to G. H. Goff of
Waverly. The support of the
team has been a burden to the
Wilburs ever since they bought it.
It has often been rumored that the
team would be sold, but it was
only within the last few days that
the company considered the matter
seriously. Just how the hcavy
truck will now be drawn in case of
fire is not known, as it is altogether
too large to be handled by hand

exception. It is replete with strong
dramatic situations and the comedy

A mammoth freight locomotive
stood in front of the depot for a
short time this morning. It was
built by the Baldwin Locomotive
Works for the Atchison, Topeka &
Santa Fe Railroad and was in tran-
sit. It was one of the largest ever
seen here, and had five drive
wheels and a trailer. The second
driver from the front had no flange
oft it. The locomotive was of mass-
ive build, was a compound, and the
cylinders seemed almost large
enough for a boiler on one of the
old time locomotives.
