Kline went to To- wanda last SN Willard Kells Will Take Charge of the Lehigh Valley Shops at That City Willard Kells, master mechanic of the old Lehigh Valley railroad shops at Sayre, has been appointed to the position of master mechanic of the company’s shops at Buffalo and will go to that city tomorrow to assume the duties of his new position. Mr. Kells came to Sayre three years ago last May and had charge of all the Lehigh shops up to the time that the new shops were put into operation. Since that time most of the work has been done in the larger shops and some of the old shops have been practically abandoned, although others were run the same as before. He has had charge of the old departmert until the notice of his appointment to the new position was given to him. The many friends of Mr. Kells will very much regret his leaving Sayre and will join in wishing him the highest success in his new po-~ sition. So far as could be ascers tained no one has yet been ap pointed to fill. the place made vacant at Sayre. HOUSEBOAT PARTY A staunch craft, fitly named “Go As You Please,” anchored at the Lockhart street bridge on the Sus quehanna last night. The boat is a commodious affair and is very adequately fitted for a comfortable cruise. The party comprised Judge Newcomb, and Messrs, Valentine, Coston and Dolan, all well known Scrantonians. Frank O. Vaughn of Mechoopany, well known in Sayre, is commodore and has an able assistant in the person of Charles Westcott. The boat re sumed its voyage today. HORSES WILL RACE The relative speed ability of two horses Gilbert H. owned by Hill & Beibach, and Harry P. owned by James Vail has led to much dis- cussion as the two horses have raced twice and each has a victory to his credit. Yesterday the own- ers of Gilbert H. issued a challenge for a race. This morning L. C. Kitchen and T. P. Maney met and made arrangements for a race, each posting a forfeit of $10. Each man will choose a driver, and the date of the race will be announced later. The silver medal contest under the auspices of the W.C.T. U. took place last evening before a good sized crowd in the Wheelock chapel at Milltown. There were six contestants and the declama- tions were all along the line of temperance. The contest was very close and rather difficult of de- cision. The medal was presented to the winner by Mrs, Sylvia B. He had all kinds of fish in large quantities, and he stated that the valiant crew of the Admiral Togo were fairly cleaning the river of its fiony in- habitants. The chief has two more dogs in his custody that appeared on the street without the necessary tag attached. One was brought in by a party who prob. ably wanted to get rid of the dog, while the chief succeeded in coax ing the other into the pound. FELL FROM WAGON Samuel Hoffman of Elmira was driving through Waverly today about 12 o'clock. A nut came loose and fell off the axle, letting the wagon tip over, throwing Mr. Hoffman to the ground. He was very badly bruised and was brought to the hospital where his injuries were attended to. DIED TODAY Mrs. John Michael, of Towanda, died at the hospital today shortly before noon. A mammoth freight locomotive stood in front of the depot for a short time this morning. It was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works for the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad and was in tran- sit. It was one of the largest ever seen here, and had five drive wheels and a trailer. The second driver from the front had no flange oft it. The locomotive was of mass- ive build, was a compound, and the cylinders seemed almost large enough for a boiler on one of the old time locomotives.
