avenue, who has been seriously ill
of typhoid fever, is convalescing.

at the park last night. The per-
formances given by the summer
stock company are pleasing, clean
and strictly uptodate. The success
of the engagement is assured.
Black Diamond Legion, N. P. L..
will hold a public meeting and pay
off this evening. Upwards of
$1,500 dividends will be distributed
among members whose policies
have matured. There will also be
a fine program and refreshments.

The only accident reported in
connection with the observation
train which was run on the Lehigh
on Tuesday was that of a man
falling off a car near the bridge at
Reawick. He was drunk and
therefore was not hurt in the least.
Special Officer Jesse Doty, who
has been chief of the Lehigh Val
ley’s detective force at this point
for the past eight months, severed
his connection with that office yes-
terday and will engage in other
pursuits, though just what the
nature of the business he will fol.

guilty to the charge before Judge
Fanning at Towanda yesterday and |
was sentenced to five years in the)
Eastern penitentiary and pay a fine
of $30 and also the costs of prose-
cution. Getts has a long police
record and had frequently been
made an inmate of the Bradford
counly jail on various charges, and
this fact no doubt had weight with
the court when sentence was pro-
nounced,
Emma Walker, colored, another
thief who pleaded guilty to stealing
£40 from the home of W. B. Gun-
ton of Towanda, where she was
employed as a domestic, was fine |
$50, the costs of prosecution and
imprisonment in the penitentiary
for 18 months
A session of juvenile court was
also held by Judge Fanning yester
day, and three children were sent
to the house of refuge. They were
Lucy Heeman, 11 years old, of
Towanda township, who has no
parents or known relatives; Cora
Parker, Towanda, 16 years old,
who found on the streets
drunk, and James Wesley Chilson,
son of Wesley Chilson, a blind

streams of Sullivan county where
they spent the day.
MISS TREAT WEDS
Miss Melissa Treat, the soprano
singer who appeared here recently
at the concert given by the trio in
the Baptist church, was married on |
Tuesday last at her home in Horse- |
heads, N.Y, to C. T. Poole of
New York city. The groom is an
employe of the Westinghouse!
company, and is at present engaged |
in installing new electrical appara-
tus at the campus in Ithaca. The |
bride made many friends during
her brief visit to Sayre. She pos-
sesses a rare voice and will gradu-
ate at the Ithaca Conservatory of |

Fred M. Lamon, the Bingham-
ton painter who was arrested at
Sunbury several weeks
charged with the murder of Mrs
Payne, Tioga county, this state,
was released from jul at Wellsboro
on $1,000 bail. Lamon says that
the report that he told of having
committed the murder is untrue,
and says that his arrest was due to
the efforts of a Clearfield county
“fly " cop who did not know What
he was doing. He also says that
the husband of the murdered
woman has never been brought to
the jail to identify him.
