One bleak morning upon opening the
house Muhammad Din falled to meet
me with his accustomed greeting.
1 cannot well describe my feelings
when, upon looking more closely, 1 dis-
covered my little friend lying stiff and
{stark on the yellow straw at some little
| distance from the corner where his
{ guardians usually slept. These guar-

| decided to go to roost and had left
poor Muhammad to freeze 10 death
His eyes were closed peacefully in
death, and ! could almost fancy that
| {in his last moments he had been think-
ing of his happy little life and his
steadfast friend —Kausas City Star.
