Ford, a respectable ‘appearing, well dressed, white Baired man, who gave his age as 86 years, is under arrest at To- wanda, on a warrant sworn out before Justice Meredith by Arthur ~ P, Watson of Towanda Ford is charged with fraud in connection with the sale of a book entitled _ "The Congressional Manual" Some time ago a man giving his name as H. M. Johnson canvassed ~ throughout Bradiord county and sold copies of the book for $250 each, claiming that th: book had been endorsed by Congress- mena Lilley and Deemer. It was claimed that the money was to be z sent to the Memorial University at Mason City, Ix, but when the matter was called to the attention ‘of Mr. Lilley that gentleman pro nounced the book a fraud and said that he had not endorsed it Ford when arrested claimed that he had been sent out by Johnson to collect the money for the book, d that he had supposed that its gale was a stnctly legitimate transaction Ford employed David E Kaufman to rp-ccet him and later sent for Attorney Keeler of Rochester.
