work of his department for the year

engine which he uses for cutting
wood and fodder and for doing
various kinds of work on the farm.
Lou Miller installed the apparatus.
SUGH FIRE
Waverly —A slight fire occurred
this morning at the residence of H.
W. Mosier on Moore street. Very
little damage was done, only a few
shingles being burned around the
chimney. The department res-
ponded quickly when the alarm
sounded, but had considerable
difficulty in locating the blaze, and
when they reached the scene of
the fire it had been entirely extins
guished.

Waverly—A special New Year's
musica! program will be given at
Waverly Methodist church both
morning and evening tomorrow.
Mr. Nelson Peckins will render a
baritone solo and Miss Lissa Treat
of the Ithaca conservatory of
music will sing a solo at both
Waverly— Eugene Thompson,
who has beea proprietor of the
Lehigh Valley House at 403 Ful
ton street, south side, for some
time, has purchased that hostlery
from the former owner, Mrs. D. W.
Cain. The deal was closed yes-
terday

Resolution Passed by the Board
of Trustees---A Census of the
Viliage Is Also Authorized
Waverly —The board of trustees
of this willage held a meeting last
might at which time the report of
Consulting Engineer Vermule in
regard to the value of the water
works was received. The report
was considered in executive session.
After the report had been thor-
oughly examined the board passed
a resolution offering the water
company the sum of $105,000 for
the water works system
Another resolution was passed
in accordance with the village law
that a census of the village should
be taken, and president Tucker was
authorized to employ five enumer-
ators at $2 per day until the work
is completed.
COLLEGE CIRLS ENTERTAINED
The Misses Jessie and Pauline
Angell, Vassar students, at their
home at 414 Chemung street, as-
sisted by other alumni and students
of Vassar, entertained the college
girls of the valley from 4 until 7
o'clock yesterday afternoon.
Part of the entertainment con-
sisted of stunts by the individuals
or by the representatives of cach
college collectively. Much amuse-
ment was derived from this source.
The yells of the various institu-
tions were given and it is said that
the conglamorations of noise pro-
duced was such as to fill the spirits
ol the aborigines with envy.
STOLE BOKES
Waverly—Someone stole two
boxes valued at $3 each from Bak-
er's mills in South Waverly last
night. The boxes were about
three feet long, a foot deep, and
are divided into five compartments,

garden, which Is the bighest garden in
the world. It was started on a small
scale nine years ago by Abbe Chonoux,
who lives in a house nearby, and soon
after the queen, who Is an ardent Al-
