Our former enterprising townsman, JOHN MEREDITH, of Canton, was shaking hands with his Towanda friends yesterday. CHARLIE HILL, who is at present employed n the Erie R. R. office at Waverly, is down with malarial fever at his home in this place. Our young friend, ROBERT SATTEREB, of Monroeton, proposes to take a course at East man's Commercial College, Pougbkeepsie, N.y. THEODORE M. ARNOUT, who is now a med ical student in Smithfield, was in town yes terday and paid the REVIEW office a welcome visit. Mrs. Doctor NICIIOL, of Edinburg, Scot land, and Mrs. PATTERSON, of Flint, Mich., are visiting their brother M. F. RANSOM, Esq., in Smithfield. Mine host KELLOGG of the Elwcll House, has been breathing the invigorating air of Sullivan county for the benefit of his health, f or the past few days. Mrs, JUDD, daughter of the late Col. HAR RY SALSBURY of Monroeton, is the guest of Mrs. R. R. ROCKWELL. Mrs. J. will return to her home iu Crawford county soon. O. D. BARTLETT of Towanda was in town on Monday, and adjusted the loss of Mrs. ABRAMS'S house which burued a short time ago* We understand that the adjustment was perfectly satisfactory to the parties in terested.—Dushorc Review. Mr. JAMES T, HALE, having completed his new house on State street, now himself and wife are experiencing the bliss of 44 love in a cottage." The Episcopal Mite Society will meet next Monday evening at Mrs. LADD'S on River St. The prospect of having a rector soon gives added interest to these social gatherings. BUCK, a member of the Bradford county bar, has just codified the 4 4 Road Laws, and Laws relating to Bradford county," and had them neatly printed and hound in stiff eovers. The work should be in the hands of every township officer in the county. It is sold at the very reasonable price of 60 cents per copy, ami may be found at both the book stores in this place, or at Mr. BUCK'S office iu the Court House. Aside from the damage to property and de tention of Iraius, the wrecking of train 15 on Wednesday night was not serious. The ac cident occurred just below Wyalusfng and was caused by an open switch. The train was running at full speed and the cegineer did not discover the misplaced switch in time to stop his train. On leaving the track the engine was detached from the cars and was brought to a stand-still safe and sound, the engineer and fireman remainiug at their posts. The baggage and express cars, one coach and the sleeper went down the embankment into the bed of the canal, but strange as it may seem, no one was seriously injured. A few of the possengars were slightly bruised, but all were able to take care of themselves. TOWANDA, PA., FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 1881. Mr. REUBEN BENNETT of this place started for Waverly yesterday morning with a load of household goods,. and when near Ulster his horses were frightened by a moving train of cars and ran. Mr. BENNETT was thrown to the ground where he was soon after dis covered in an unconscious condition. lie was brought home last evening and Dr. D. S PRATT was summoned. The Doctor does not think him seriously hurt, though there were indications of internal injuries, the ex tent of which could not be determined. The horses were not damaged but the furniture was considerably demoralized. Win. The Clark Honge, Duluth, Minn., burn ed Wednesday afternoon. Loss $50,000. Chauncey J. Filiey is mentioned as Postmaster General, General Longstreet as Secretary of the Navy and General Beale as Secretary of War. Only $43,000 continued six per cents were thus far offered under the terms of the Treasury circular of November 4th. Treasury officials think the Secretary will issue a call for bonds soon. It is reported that Lincoln will shortly retire voluntarily from the Cabiuet, that Emory Storrs will be the new Attorney General and that ex-Senator Chalice will succeed Kirkwood as Secretary of the luterior.
