Kuiitiontly satisfactory ami assuring as the appointment of ex-Governor Morgan as Secretary of the Treasury proved to lie that of Judge lTolger cannot, he less so. His lltness for the position cannot be questioned. His legal attainments, force and purity of character, great probity and untiring energy are well known; while his former long connection with the sub-Treasury in Now York cannot but Uo of very material service to him in this new position, should he surrender his present important place at tlie head of the Court of Appeals to accept it. Judge Folger is an intrepid Republican, with decided convictions of his own, t lie outcome of high moral principle and pur pose. With him in charrre of the Treas ury Department Wall street rings and speculators will have little to hope for in the way of anticipating Treasury trans actions, while the people will have every reason to feel secure that his administra tion of Treasury affairs will lie creditable find profitable to the country. liinyham ton Republican. The Health Officer at l'hiladelphia re cently report* d : "During the current year not a single ease of cholera has oc curred in the city or port of Philidelphic." A letter was recently received at, the Hound Lake postoflice addressed to Mrs. Elizabeth Abeel which was written and mailed by her sou, 11am ilton Abeel in August, 18G.5, while serving in the Union army in Virginia. The letter contained a tin-type pictuie of the "bold soldier boy" in full regimentals, which is in an excellent state of preservation, scarcely a dent being noticeable on its surface. The supposition is that after Abeel had mailed his letter the mail-carrier was captured by the Confederates, Mosby's guerillas probably, and the epistle found its way to the headquarters of Lee's ar my, and afterward to Richmond, where it was laid away among the archives of the late Southern Confederacy. The let ter was remailed at Richmond, Va., a I few days ago and reached its destination eighteen years after it first set out on its journey. Francis Williams Rawle, father of ex- State Treasurer Henry Rawle, died on Thursday at Williamsport in his 87th year. He served in the Gray Reserves in the war of 1812. Guitteau's trial has been postponed till November 14. His counsel, Mr. Scoville has made a statement which amounts to a declaration that the question of juris diction will not be raised.
