The first issue of The Worker, the new
Greenback organ of Wyoming county, will
lie issued on Wednesday. MERRICK & STARK
are the editors and proprietors. Dr. A. P.
MERRICK, formerly of Elmira, is one of the
leading spirits of the enterprise.
The Lehigh Valley directors are to have an
inspecting excursion over their roads in this
state next week. It is to occupy four days.
They leave Philadelphia on the morning of
Tuesday, October 18, and will return to that
city on Friday, October 21. A number of
Elmirans it is expected will accompany the
party. — Free Press.
WEDDING AT TOWANDA, PA.—MR. HEN
RY MCKANNA and Miss NANCY DOI.AN were
united in marriage at SS. Peter and Paul's
church, Towanda, last Tuesday. Father
KELLY officiated. CHARLES MCKANNA,
brother of the groom, acted as best man and
Miss ANNA MCKANNA performed the office
of bridesmaid. The happy couple were at
tired in rich apparel, suitable to the occasion,
and elicited much favorable comment from
the many friends of the contracting parties.
The presents were numerous, and the newly
made couple start on the journey of life with
the best wishes of their many admiring
friends. They went on a wedding tour to
Philadelphia.— Elmira Adv.
One only needs to take a look at the win

NOTICE.—An appeal haying been taken
from a decision of the judges of the late Fair
in awarding the diploma to the Syracuse plow
the Board of Managers will determine said
appeal by actual trial on Friday, October 21st,
1881, at 1 'o'clock, p. m., on the farm of Geo.
11. JFox, in Towanda township. All parties
exhibiting plows at the Fair held Sept. 28,
2!) and 30, 1881, are requested to be present
with their plows, in order to determine said
appeal. Parties who enter for said trial must
notify the Secretary on before Thursday, Oc
tober 20th, giving name of plow, where man
ufactured, and by whom it will be represen
ted m the contest.
DENIES TIIE SOFT IMPEACHMENT.—It
having been currently reported that It. C.
SINSAH VUGH, a well known citizen of Athens
bad eloped with a young married lady, he
sends the following prompt denial to the
Athens Gazette.

FRIEND CHARLES: —T am here in my na
tive county, visiting friends, and this morn
ing was handed the Elmiia Sunday Telegram
which alleged that I bad Ajopcd with "a cer
tain married lady from til city of Elmira,
which is false and a tissue of lies from begin
ning to end. 1 write you this denial for fear,
perhaps, that vou might possibly b'dieve
there was truth in tli • report. I am on mv
way back aud shall attend to it on my retu n.

About the busiest place in town is the Five
Cent Store. The designation, by the way, is
a misnomer. It, should be called the Bazaar,
as it contains almost everything; articles from
the lowest to the highest price. It is a favor
ite resort for .the ladies. One of the firm
goes to New York this week to buy new
goods.
Pomona Grunge, No. 23, P. of 11,, composed of
Bradford and Sullivan counties, will hold its next
regular Quarterly meeting at the Hall of Spring
Hill Grange, No. 178, on Thursday, November 3rd,
1881, at one o'clock, I'. M. Those going by Rail
Road will leave at Wyalusing where conveyances
will be in waiting. A general attendance is reques
ted, as business of importance is to be transacted,
together with the election of officers for the ensuing
year. Evening session will be open, and all are in
vited to attend.
