Mr. A. LEWIS, of Wvalusing suffered hea
vily by the late forest tires, running over bis
valuable timber tract in Wilmot.
A young lady of Lanesborough received a
terrible shock to her nervious system one day
last week. Being sent for some Hour she
took out of a bureau drawer what she sup
posed to be a clean pillow-case, and
bounced into the store with a regular tooth
ache smile upon her face. The clerk took the
receptacle and putting it into the bin proceed
ed to fill it, but upon lifting it out, the flour
all ran out of the bottom, disclosing a nicely
embroidered and ruffled—well, never mind j
what. As soon as the young lady saw what
ii was, she " lit out" nor has he been there
for her flour since— Susq. Journal.
During the thunder shower Thursday night
a barn owned by the Misses MCIVINNKY, in
Litchfield, was struck by lightning and burn

Last week at the Pennsylvania State Fair
and Pittsburg Exposition, the following Sew.
ing machines were on exhibition, viz: Whee
ler and Wilson, Home, Singer. New Home,
White, Domestic, Wilson, Household and
Davis. The Judges awarded the Silver Med
al to the Davis, for the best double thread
sewing machine; tirst prize for the best plain
sewing; first prize for the best fancy sewing;
lirst prize for the best silk embroidery.
Crystal Lodge. No 57, Knights of Honor of
this place, have reduced their initiation fee
from $10.0(1 to $5.00. This Lodge now has a
membership of over 00 members, composed
of our best citizens, and pays to the Widows
and (Orphan's Benefit Fund at each assess
ment over SIOO. It gives its members an in
surance of $2,000. which has cost on an aver
age, since the foundation of the order, $ll.OO
per vear and pays a sick benefit of s."> per
week in ease of sickness or disability. This
