MONROK CHlPS.—Esquire Crammer has
been quite out of repair for a few days, from
H severe attack of pneumoniu, contracted du
ring those cold, windy days of last week*
lie is recovering.
C. G. Smith, Esq., the news, fruit and
confectionery dealer, has a severe attack of
erysipelas, covering his entire face, eyes and
cars, giving our temperanoe advocate, quite a
brandy appearance. Charley never takes any
of the red ruin; so folks need not laugh a
word about it..
A FIUB ALMOST.—On the 19th inst., a lit
tle vagrant of a boy was seen to run from
Mrs. Rockwell's sheds and barn standing
near the bridge and mills. This excited cu
riosity, so that a look in that direction re
vealed an increasing cloud of smoke rising
from the straw in the sheds. Pails and the
C •eek being handy, the lire was soon put out;
and manv thousands of dollars worth of pr-'p
crty was saved in this dry time. Parents
should be held responsible for the wherea-
I mis of their children, as well as for the!
having matches to play with at the expense

Crystal Lodge, No 57, Knights of Honor of
this place, have reduced their initiation fee
from SIO.OO to $5.00. This Lodge now has a
membership of over 90 members, composed
of our best citizens, and pays to the Widows
and Orphan's Benefit Fund at each assess
ment over SIOO. It gives its members an in
surance of $2,000. which has cost on an aver
age, since the foundation of the order, $ll.OO
per vear and pays a sick benefit of $3 per
week in case of sickness or disability. This
