MESSRS EDITORS.— The records injr fifty
years past do not exhibit so heated a term ot
weather, as the experience of the last six
weeks.
During August and September we have had
five davs in which the thermometer range<
from one hundred and upward in the shade;
but in open country, where there was neith
or buildings nor foliage to absorb the heat—
in some localities 104 degrees has been reach
ed. Hitherto 90 degrees has consider
ed—hot. hotter —hottest. I a strict
record for many years.

The last scene in the plav, Uncle Tern's
Cabin, which is to be produced in Mercur
Hall this evening hy the Boston Ideal Uncle
Tom's Cabin Company is thus described in
their programme:
Act 7, and La*t. —The Apotheosis of Eva
and Ascension into Ileaven. The most Sub
lime and thrilling Allegory ever witnes-ed
Paint d by E. (1. Evans of Boston. The scene
opens disclosing to tne audience a chaotic
mass of clouds and vapor; slowly the veil ot
mist is lifted; music swells through the
echoing space—a tide of richest ui lody—
while eouniless angel voices join in the sol
emn chorus, which rolls away and lingers in
the distance, faintly as the whisper of a spirit.
Silent and magnetic the dense clouds rend
asunder, disclosing the pearly gates of Para
dise. while the spirit of gentle Eva is seen as
cending IO the Celestial Courts of God. The
i horus of the angels, with their song of wel
come. thrill the enraptured ear, the eye is daz
zled and deli Mi ted as the gorgeous beauties ot
the streets of Heaven burst upon the view,
and Ihe gentle, loving bva, with a smile ot
seraphic tenderness, bids a last adieu to earth
and enters thai abode of bliss which mortals
dream of and which unguis know.
