It mav not he generally known that a test
oil well is about to he put down within one
mile of the southern line of our county, just
in the edge of Wyoming and Sullivan coun
ties, in the vicinity of Sciota \ allc". The
Company, made up principally of Wyoming
county capitalists, are men of both wealth
and enterprise, and propose to make a thor
ough investigation—going down at least 2000
feet, unless oil in paying <|uautities is found
nearer the surface. Practical petroleum men
have for some time been convinced that oil
cxi-ts in that section, as the best surface in
dications arc afforded. In case the experi
ment. does not prove successful in developing
oil, it may decide the question as to whether
coal and iron exist there or not. We await
the result with much interest, as. if petrole
um or minerals arc found there, the same
may exist nearer this locality.
