OVERTON, a graduate of the Pennsvlvania Institute for the Blind, and at present a teacher in that Institution, is spending his summer vacation with friends in this county. He has been totally blind from infancy and is an exceptionable bright young man. Owing to the severe storm 011 Friday, the entertainment advertised to come off in the grove near Monroeton on Friday, was post poned until Thursday of this week. Good music will he in attendance. It mav not he generally known that a test oil well is about to he put down within one mile of the southern line of our county, just in the edge of Wyoming and Sullivan coun ties, in the vicinity of Sciota \ allc". The Company, made up principally of Wyoming county capitalists, are men of both wealth and enterprise, and propose to make a thor ough investigation—going down at least 2000 feet, unless oil in paying <|uautities is found nearer the surface. Practical petroleum men have for some time been convinced that oil cxi-ts in that section, as the best surface in dications arc afforded. In case the experi ment. does not prove successful in developing oil, it may decide the question as to whether coal and iron exist there or not. We await the result with much interest, as. if petrole um or minerals arc found there, the same may exist nearer this locality. As intimated yesterday, another crisis in the President's case has been reached, and the knife was again successfully used yosterday to secure the discharge of pus* The operation was not attended by any unfavorable symptoms other than the un avoidable drain upon his strength. After the last bulletin was issued, the President suffered some for a time from nausea, due to ether, but that has now subsided, lie lias had several refreshing naps, and his general condition is even better than might have been exspected after the etherization and the operation. At noon his pulse was 104, temperature 100.2, respiration 20. At present his pulse is 108, temperature 101, respiration 19. Under the circumstances, the fever must be regarded as moderate.
