The persistency with which the city editor
of the Elmiru, Advertiser credits our locals to
other papers, leads to the conclusion that it is
done designedly.
One of our coteinporaries gives an account
of an incident alter a recent Gliurch picnic, the
advent, of " a respectably dressed and well ap
pearing, strange gentleman," in search of a
wife. It may be questioned whether it is
right to present extraneous attractions of this
kind to draw people to these pleasant affairs.
People cross the ocean and pay thousands
of dollars 40 see Niagara Falls. An opportu
nity is now afforded any of our readers to
see the great vvonher for less than five dol
lars.
Excursionists to Niagara Falls oil Tuesday
next need have 110 fears of extortionate
charges when arriving tlieie. The managers
have arranged every detail, as will be noticed.
Admission to all places lias been secured at
remarkably low rates. And arrangements
liaye been made with the Spencer House, one
of the best hotels, for meals at 50 cents, half
the usual rate.
The Ilazleton school hoard have maintained
a dead-lock for a number of weeks past over
the selection of a borough superintendent.—
They have now resolved to compromise the
matter by submitting the question to the coun
ty superintendent, who has chosen Profs.
COPELAND and GEYER to assist him in de
termining which of the applicants is the bet
ter fitted for the position.
Mrs. Charlotte Ingham, widow of the bile
(.'apt. .J. B. Ingham, who fell at, the battle of
Aniietjim, i> visiting her old friends in Mon
roe. She was our next door neighbor for
years, and witlr her family was most highly
valued. We were srreatlv gratified to wel
come her unchanged countenance once again
toour little family circle. We were remind
ed of days sigone, ere the fatal cannon shots
tore our friend (the Captain) from lis, and
out of the world. She is now an esteemed
resident of Troy, this county. Iler daughter,
Annie, is visiting Mrs. Kellogg, of the El
vvell House, Tovvanda.

The Exstensive Roserv and Nursery House
of It. G. Chase A Co., of Geneva, N. V.. is
represented in Towanda and vicinity by Mr. J.
T. Mi HIKE, of Ithaca. This is one of the oldest
and most reliable Nursery Concerns in the
State of New York. Their large and increas
ing trade is due solely to their honorable
method of doing business. Many of our best
citizens will clwori'ully testify to the very
satisfactory manner of their dealings with
them in the past, always receiving their or
ders in the hist condition and True to name.
Parties giving'Mr MOORE their orders can do
so with the utmost confidence. We bespeak
for him a large patronage.
You may never have another opportunity
