The Bernice mines have been working :i --bout five days each week thus far dm ing the summer, which shows that the demand for Loyal Sock coal is good. The moral undertow of this community is being agitated just now. Several suits, dis closing the baser side of life have occupied the attention of our justice courts this week. We are authorized to announce that there will be shooting on the Range on the other side of the river, below the lock, on Monday forenoon, July 4th. at a Bulls-Eye target, un der the supervision of the officers of the To wanda Rifle Club. The prize match will be called at 1:30 p. in., and all who expect to compete must be on hand at that time. Mr. SEXTON, who a few years ago estab lished the Industrial llegister , at Blossburg, a paper devoted to the industrial interests of the country, has been compelled to abandon the project. The journal was on the road to permauent success, but, the able and| indefa tigable editor was unable to meet all the de mands against him, and lias been sold out by the Sheriff. He has sown; others will reap the harvest. In his valedictory he says: I was unable to obtain time in order to make my collections and renewals, and the sheriff came with writs and sold me out. It is the old story; when one comcnced actian agains tine others followed in quick succession, antl I was forced into a corner from whence there was no retreat. I shall go to work with a will to earn a sufficient sum to satisfy every creditor in full and I believe I shall succeed. A very stringent law was passed by the Ligislature at the heel of the session, regula ting delegate elections of all political parties, which will be a heavy blow to ringisters lead ers and "bossism." It prohibits the use of money, or other improper influences, at dele gate elections,or nominating conventions, and parties who receive as well as those who give improper considerations for influence or votes are held to a strict accountability under its provisions—with severe penalties for a viola tion. Any person selling his influence or vote to aid in the nomination or election of any candidate subjects himself to tine ami im prisonment; and so with any person who uses intimidation—by threats or otherwise— to prevent voter's will. The law, general in its provisions, embraces a number of sections, but the first, which is all we have room for at present, will give its general character and is here appended: Be it enacted, etc., That hereafter if a candidate for any office within this Common wealth shall directly or indirectly give, offer or promise to give, or procure to give to any elector any gift or reward, in money, goods or other valuable thing, or any office, emolument or employment on condition expressed or im plied that such electors shall cast, give, retain or withhold his vote or use his influence at a nominating election or delegate election, or cast, give or substitute another to castor give his vote or use his influence at a nominating convention for or against the nomination of any particular candidate for nomination so as to procure such person to be voted for at any election to take place, the person so hiring, procuring, influencing, abetting, endeavoring or offering either directly or indirectly through others, their aiders or abettors to procure the person to be voted for by such electors, shall be guiltv of a misdemeanor, and on conviction shall he sentenced to pay a fine not exceeding S3OO and be imprisoned for a period not exceeding three months.
