Miss 111 L A NOHLE is home from school for 1
the Summer vacation.
Mile. LEQUIX has gone out of town for a '
few weeks of rest and recreation.
Mrs. BORDEN, of Ithaca, is visiting in this
place. She is the guest of Mrs. W. A. CIIAM
BERLIX.
Mrs. GOODRICH is visiting in Philadelphia,
and will spend a day or two in Hazleton 011
her way home.
Judge LINN and the attorneys engaged in
the railroad suit, took a ride over the S. L. A
S. road yesterday in a special train.
J AS. KIRWIN, the baggage man, has been
awarded the contract for carrying the mail
between the post office and 1.. V. depot.
Mrs. G. R. MACKARLANEis in Washington
to attend the wedding of her sister Miss
BRADLEY. The bride-elect visited in this
place last year.
Mr. W. V. Duggan, who recently graduat
ed at tin* Susquehanna Collegiate Institute
has accepted the Principalship of the Barclay
Graded School and commences Monday next.
The people wanted htm to commence imme
diately on his arrival home, he bogged how
ever a week's respite from the hard work of

C. L. TUACY bus just purchased from Mc-

ger phaeton, of their own manufacture. The
carriage is creditable to the makers and does
honor to their skill and workmanship. Mr.
TRACY deserves praise for patronizing home
manufacturers, and we have 110 doubt lie has

S. W. BUCK of Leßaysville was a caller at.

Our enterprising fashionable tailor F. R.
Gn\DY, gave his faithful apprentice, Mr. J.
T. SMITH, a tlattering evidence of his valu
able service, the other evening by the persen
tation of a watch and chain. Mr. SMITH
completed his apprenticeship on Saturday.
T'he following is handsomely engraved on the
inside of the case: 44 Presented by F. P. GRA
DY to J. T. SMITH. June 18th, 18S1." The
valuable present also bears testimony to Mr.
G RADY'S prosperity.
We find in the San Antanio, (Texas), daily
Er press of May 2Jth. the following very com
plimentary resolutions in regard to the re
moval from that post of I >u. A. L. BUFFING
TON, U. S. A. Surgeon. The I>octor resided
here with Col. EDWARDS' family when a boy
and was one of the first students at the Sus
quehanna Collegiate Institute. He is a broth
er of Mrs L. B. RODGERS and lias many
friends in Towanda who will be pleased to
hear of his popularity:
At a meeting of the citizens of Rio Grande
City, Texas, on May 11, jssi, the following
preamble and resolutions were adopted:
WIIERKAS: The removal of A. L. BUF
FINGTON, M. I)., A. A. S., U. S. A., From
Fort Ringgold, Texas, in compliance with
military orders, presents a suitable opportun
ity to express the esteem we have for the
doctor, his benevolence as a physician and
gentleman. He lias been a resident among us
for upwards of seven years.
His departure from our midst is deeply re
gretted by Ihe eitizons of Rio Grande City,
who feel they are losing a friend who was al
ways ready to assist the afiiictod.
We do most -meet ly tru-t the loss of our
friend and benefactor will be to his advrn
ta.'r" professionally and otherwise.
Resolved , That the secretary of this
meeting tie instructed to transmit a copy of
these preambles and resolutions to L.

ionship of the Susquehanna lioat Club, on
Saturday evening at 7 o'clock from bridge to

One of the nail-mill employes was served
with a warrant Monday evening, requiring
his presence in Duncannon, and he was ac
companied thither by officer Buuxs. The
complainant we believe is a young lady who
had 44 loved him not wisely, but too well."

Two Professors and fourteen students
of the Massachusetts Institute of Tech
nology, located at Boston, are making a
tour of the iron and coal regions of this
State,
A gentleman in Pittsburg inadvertantly
left a pint of whiskey on the mantle a
few days ago, where it was found by his
son. The boy drank the liquor and died
from its effects in a few hours.
