The Third Annual Historical Abstract of the .United States issued by the Treu urv Department under date of February 11,1881, contains the following interest facts: The gross revenues of the United States have increased from $51,987,455.43 for the year 1802 to $333,526,010.98 for 1880. The highest amount of public rev enue during the intervening period was $558,032,020.06 for 1866. The expendi tures rose from $400,398,092.80 for 1862 to $1,297,555,224.44 in 1865, falling to $267,042,957.78 for 1880. The gross re ceipts of the Treasury in 1856 were $74,- 050,899.24, and rose to $1,805,939,345.43 in 1800, falling to $545,340,713.98 for 1880. The gross expenditures for 1850 were $72,720,341.57 and reached the sum 0f51,900,433,331.37 for 1865, falling to $700,233,138.19 for 1880. Die nr. The total interest bearing debt at the out break of the war was $90,380,873.95 (1801); reached the sum of $2,381,530,- 294.96 for the fiscal year ending August Ist, 1865; and stands at the close of 1880 $1,723,993,100.00. The annual interest charge for 1801 was $5,092,020.43; for ISOS it stood $150,977,097.87: and for 1880, $79,033,981.00. The population of the United States, July Ist, 1850 is stated at 28,083,000; in 1880 50,858,000. The debt per capita in 1850 stood $.30: in 1805 it readied the sum of $78.23: and stands, (1880), $37.74. ( To be continued.) The official records show that the pay on the Star-Route from Phcenix to Pres cott, Arizona, originally let for SOBO, was afterwards raised, without good reason, to $33,000 a year. One hundred and sev ty-eiglft thousand dollars were paid for temporary mail service in Texas alone, of which $103,000 went to favorite contract ors. The temporary service could have been let in Texas for eight dollars a mile, but two-thirds of it was let to favorites at twenty three dollars a mile. The (Imphic'n Washington special says : "Possibly some Star route service dis continued by the Postmaster General will be restored when Congress meets. Great dissatisfaction is reported in sections of the Southwest over the discontinuance of the service. I,t is said that people resid ing iu au extensive region in Arkansas, numbering thousands, have been without mail facilities for a mouth." The fight is still fiercely waged in Al bany. A gentleman who recently visited that city thinks it not improbable that Conkling and a Democrat may finally be the compromise ticket. BUSINESS IjOCALS. ICECREAM!
