What has become of the borough ordinance requiring dogs to be muzzled during hot weather? Two of the BATCHELLER & DORIS bands furnished music for decoration services in Tunkhannock on Monday. Lots of good people in the country recol ct H! yesterday morning that they had busi ness in town which must be attended to that day and never thought about its being circus day until they got here. People casting about for some place to spend a vacation this summer, will find Shel drake. on Cayuga Lake, one of the most at tractive resorts in the country. The place is easy of access to people in this section. The Cayuga Lake Hotel, one of the linest hotels to be found anywhere, will be open to the public on the loth instant. C. T. SMITH of the Delevan House in this city offers for sale the lease and furniture of that hotel. The house, being near the depot convenient in all respects, well arranged and in good order, would be an attractive place for some hotel man looking for a spot to lo cate. Mr. SMITH is one of the best landlords in the country and has given the house such a reputation for good meals, pleasnt rooms and considerate and courteous attention that the purchaser would step at once into a first class trade.— Elmira Free Press. ATHENS, May 31,1881. The services yesterday at this place were interesting. The Franklin Guards went over in the morning and decorated the grave of Col. Franklin, Major Spalding making a short but excellent address. Perkins Post Band accompanied them and in the afternoon led them and the G. A. It. boys to the Tioga Cemetery. They were joined on their return by Protection llosc Company and others, and marched to the village cemetery; at this point rain began falling, and by the kindness of Rev. Mr. Head the Methodist Church was opened, and soon filled with a civil company who listened attentively to an excellent ad dress by John M. Vauderslice. The Glee Club rendered excellent vocal music, Miss Ile'en Lane of Waverly assisting, Miss Camp bell of the same plaee, presiding at the organ. The address was worthy of special mention for tvste and thought. WILL. SAVE THE CHILDREN'S LOCKS.—DO not deprive the little ones of so great an orna ment as the curls which it is so little trouble to form in childhood. Let them have at least tip -o to distinguish them from the men and women to whose estate they will arrive all too soon. There is a common but false no tion that frequent cutting of the hair : s favorable to its health and growth. Moth ers thus often despoil their infants of their first silken locks with the idea that the sec ond hair \\ ill be much more rich and abund ant. This is an error. " The most beoutiful heads of hair I ever saw,"' savs Dr. CAZEX AVE, " were those which the scissors had never touched." Mothers, not satisfied with trimming the hair of theirchildren.oiten have it shaved or cut close to the scalp, when they find it losing some of its brilliancy or falling off. Ezcept in rare cases of disease the total sac: fice of the lnir is unnecessary, and the second growth is never equal to the first.— Getting the hair trimmed from time to time, may be allowed, as a matter of convenience, but it does not produce the benefit generally attributed to it.—Household Journal.
