The Daily Review. Towanda, Pa., Tuesday, May 17, 1881. BDITORB. 8. W. ALVORD. NOBLE N.ALVORD. " Daily Review" only 2)5 eenlt per month. Try it. Dr. Muller's Great Faith. Rev. D. Muller, of orphan school fame in Bristol, England, addressed a large audleuee last night in the Second Presby terian church, Pittsburg. He has found ed seventy-five day schools, thirty-six dumb schools and six adult schools, all of which are being successfully carried on by faith and prayer. lie said : Each boy*at fourteen receives an outfit and is bound to a tradesman of Christian fami ly ; likewise each girl at eveuteeii re ceives an outfit and a place in a Christian family. Our milk costs annually SIO,OOO and our expenses equal .$220,000 yearly. Iu all and for all we ask God only, and each assistaut is required to never reveal our wants. The only time the public learns of our staudiug is when we pub lish our annual statements. For forty seveu years I have labored in Bristol, and been thus fed as by the lavens from God's hand, and bountifully too. Never once have the children been supperless or hungry. Many infidels and atheists have been converted by a knowledge of our success. We have trusted iu God, and have never been confounded. We have seeu many infidels, atheists and skeptics reuounce forever their belief. Dr. filler observes the following prin ciples in his work: Ask God and never man for all needs. Depend upon and rest assured in faith that God who hears will answer prayer. Never receive aught save through God ; and never reveal to the outside world their wants.— Evening Mail. There is a savor of old times in a bit of news which comes lrom Griffin, Ala. Some theatrical manager of more enter prise thau prudeuce, undertook to pre sent to the Griffins the well-known drama of "Uncle Tom's Cabiu." This roused a sentiment usually supposed to be extinct; and wlieu the curtain went up the actors received tokens of the public feeling in the shape of eggs. The Eufala (Ala.) Times approves this proceedings, and ex presses the opinion that "the Griffin boys did the company right." It proposes thwt t .e actors shall be similarly greeted and treated "in every town in which the insulting play may be presented." It is hardly necessary to indulge in any great amount of indingnation at this proceed ing. It seems to show not so much wickedness as stupidity.. There is no more sense in it than in the rage of a bull at the sight of a red rag. Possibly it in dicates not only ignorance but idiocy—a total inability to comprehend in the least the situation. No man can be blamed for declining to pay his money to see "Uncle Tom's Cabin," but when he has paid it for that purpose, why should he miss the opportunity, besides wasting the eggs? The advantage of living in a country so vast that no crop can be a failure iu all parts of it is illustrated by late reports from the wheat fields. Cool-headed men in Minnesota are predicting a large yield of the best quality, •wing to the reserve of moisture stored in the soil at an unu sual depth, while in Ohio word come that the crop of 1881, contrary to premature reports, is likely to be above the average and in ly be the largest ever harvested in the State. With these comfortable promises to lean on, it is not worth while to despond over the news from # Kansas. The Levenworth Times frankly admits that the wheat crop of that State will undoubtedly fall very much below the average. According to that journal there has been no little unwarranted boasting of an enormous yield, bnt it is more honest and a better policy to lace the disagreeable fact. The prospects were never better for a greater crop thau on March Ist, but that month has a habit of upsettiug many fair hopes, and has done its worst by hundreds of wheat fields. QR. A. E.
